Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that three proposed railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir have been kept in abeyance for the time being.

He said there was a demand for three railway projects in Jammu and Kashmir, but the local Government and MPs opposed them as there were apprehensions about damage to apple orchards.

9. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board has announced the written examination dates for the ongoing direct recruitment of 32,679 posts of Constable Civil Police and equivalent positions in the state police force. According to the recruitment notification, the written examination will be conducted on 8 June to 10 Jun, 2026, in two shifts each day.

10. Andhra Pradesh has taken a strong and positive step to support women entrepreneurs by planning an exclusive industrial park only for women. This new industrial park will cover 30 acres and will mainly focus on women-led industries, startups, and small businesses. 1. The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the management of sports bodies by non-experts, saying that cricket associations should be led by retired cricketers rather than individuals who “do not even know how to handle a bat”.

2. Former State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) K. Annamalai said he had conveyed to BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran his inability to take up the responsibilities assigned to him in six constituencies for election-related work because of personal commitments.

3. The Supreme Court sought responses from the Centre and other authorities on a plea challenging the decision of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to sharply reduce the qualifying cut-off percentiles for NEET-PG 2025-26.

Under the revised criteria, the qualifying percentile for reserved categories has been reduced from 40 to zero, allowing candidates with scores as low as minus 40 out of 800 to participate in the third round of counselling. According to the NBEMS notice, the cut-off for the general category has also been lowered significantly from the 50 percentile to 7 percentile.

4. In Jammu and Kashmir, two Pakistani terrorists, including a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit, were killed yesterday after they were trapped inside a natural cave in Udhampur district. One of the deceased terrorists is Rubani alias Abu Mavia, a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit.

2. Russia is intensifying efforts to sell its advanced Su-57 Felon stealth fighter to India, this time tailoring the offer to align closely with New Delhi’s “Make in India” initiative.The proposal centres on a customised Su-57E variant, incorporating extensive participation from Indian industry and indigenous subsystems.

3. India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, held key discussions with Armenia’s Defence Minister Suren Papkyan during an official visit to Yerevan, focusing on bolstering defence cooperation between the two nations.

4. The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), India’s dedicated border guarding force for the Nepal and Bhutan frontiers, has significantly upgraded its capabilities with state-of-the-art surveillance equipment.This includes unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), micro UAVs, and advanced systems featuring automatic face recognition integrated with auto number-plate recognition. These technologies aim to enhance vigilance along the 2,400-kilometre border.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a major milestone on Tuesday with the successful ground test of its Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off Odisha’s coast.This next-generation propulsion system promises to revolutionise missile capabilities by dramatically extending ranges and enhancing speeds.

6. India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has confirmed ongoing work on a land-attack version of its Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LR-AShM), as stated by DRDO Chief Dr. Samir V. Kamat.This development builds on the missile’s successful hypersonic tests, positioning India among elite nations with advanced strike technologies.

8. The Union government’s decision in the recently-announced budget to discontinue income tax exemption available to defence personnel who receive disability pension has drawn severe flack from military veterans, who have slammed the government over the development.

As per the budget, from now on, the exemption could be availed by only those armed forces personnel who were “invalidated” out of service midway owing to bodily disability. Personnel who retired after completing their full tenure (superannuation) with a disability can no longer be eligible to avail this tax exemption.
