1. The Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha took up discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of both the Houses of Parliament, on commencement of the Budget session.

2. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu arrived in Bhubaneswar yesterday evening on a six-day visit to her home state Odisha. During her visit, the President will attend a series of official, academic and cultural programmes across Khordha, Jajpur, Balasore, Puri and Mayurbhanj districts. Today, President Murmu will offer prayers at the Maa Biraja Temple in Jajpur and perform rituals at Navi Gaya. She will later attend the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Fakir Mohan University in Balasore.

3. The government has proposed the Bio-Pharma SHAKTI scheme in the Union Budget 2026-27 at an outlay of ten thousand crore rupees over five years to boost bio-manufacturing sector. The initiative is aimed at strengthening India’s ecosystem for production of biologics and biosimilars. It also aims to reduce import dependence, and enhance India’s competitiveness in global biologics supply chains.

4. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today said that a record budget of 2 lakh 78 crore rupees has been allotted for Railways in the Union Budget 2026-27.

5. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said, the Union budget provides opportunities for youth, women, the middle class, and presents a clear roadmap for strengthening the country’s economy.

6. The Union Budget has shown a significant increase in central transfers to Himachal Pradesh. According to budget estimates, a budget of 13,949 crore rupees has been allocated to Himachal Pradesh in 2026-27 for tax transfers. Similarly, a budget of 10,243 crore rupees has been allocated to Himachal Pradesh in 2025-26 for grant-in-aid.

7. The India AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled to be held in New Delhi from February 16 to 20, is set to become the largest global summit on artificial intelligence hosted to date.

8. The Government on World Wetlands Day yesterday highlighted the rise in Ramsar sites in the country. The day is observed every year to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and planet.

9. Gyan Bharatam, announced in the Union Budget 2025–26, is a flagship national initiative aimed at preserving and revitalising India’s vast manuscript heritage. Implemented by the Ministry of Culture, the programme aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by integrating cultural conservation with knowledge creation and human capital development.

10. Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) is set to become India’s first airport to operate hydrogen-powered buses for passenger transportation, marking a significant step in the country’s clean mobility transition.

11. The Andhra Pradesh government has taken another step towards digital empowerment of small businesses with the launch of Pilloo AI, a voice-based accounting and billing application. The platform aims to simplify financial management for micro, small and medium enterprises by enabling core accounting tasks through spoken commands in native Indian languages.

12. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for dense fog conditions over Uttar Pradesh till the 5th of this month. The Met department has predicted similar conditions over Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh for the next two to three days.

1. The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to set up a tribunal to adjudicate the long-pending dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over sharing the waters of the Pennaiyar river.

2. The Election Commission has rejected the allegations of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll and termed them as false.

3. The Election Commission is confident that the SIR process in West Bengal will be concluded by the scheduled deadline of February 7. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said that hearings for over 1.5 crore voters are now in their final stage.

4. The National Council of Churches of India has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of the anti-conversion laws enacted by twelve states : Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

A 4.6-magnitude earthquake shook Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district early yesterday morning. Officials said the tremor occurred at 5.35 am, with Pattan area as the epicentre. There were no reports of any damage due to the earthquake so far.

1. The third edition of the tri-services Future Warfare Course commenced in New Delhi yesterday. The three-week programme aims to prepare officers for the complex challenges of modern warfare. It features an enhanced curriculum covering specialised subjects and domain-specific developments in military operations.

2. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has officially renamed the Kathua Railway Station as “Martyr Captain Sunil Kumar Choudhary Kathua Railway Station” to commemorate the valor and sacrifice of Captain Sunil Kumar Choudhary, a decorated officer of the Indian Army who laid down his life in the line of duty. This decision, formalized through Government Order No. 129-JK(GAD) dated 29 January 2026.

3. The Indian Air Force, IAF is showcasing its aerial capability at the Singapore Airshow this year. The Ministry of Defence has informed that the IAF is participating with the Sarang Helicopter Display Team and is flying the indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv at the event.

The airshow, being held at the Changi Exhibition Centre from the 3rd to the 8th of this month.

4. Rear Admiral Happy Mohan, VSM, assumed charge as the Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor of the Indian Naval Academy (INA).

5. India and Norway reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation and agreed to strengthen it further in the areas of political engagements, trade and investment, blue economy, circular economy, renewable energy, education, science and technology, AI, space and the Arctic. Secretary (West), External Affairs Ministry, Sibi George and Secretary General in Norway’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Torgeir Larsen co-chaired the 12th India-Norway Foreign Office Consultations in Oslo.

6. Project 76 & 77 Combat Suite: The DRDO unveiled a next-generation integrated combat suite for the Project 76 conventional and Project 77 nuclear attack submarines, designed as a digital nerve center to fuse sensor data and control torpedoes and future indigenous underwater weapons.

7. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited announced that five Tejas Mk1A fighters have completed missile trials and are technically ready for induction by March 2026, though sources caution that final operational demonstrations may cause slight delays.

8. The Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter fleet will begin a phased return to service from April 2026 after the fatigue issue in the transmission chain was addressed through the installation of an upgraded swashplate assembly.

9. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is set to sign a ₹2,400 crore contract with HAL shortly for the supply of 20 types of critical Line Replaceable Electronic Units (LRUs) for the Tejas Mk1A fighter program.

11. Exercise Agni Pariksha has recently drawn attention after being conducted in Arunachal Pradesh. The joint training exercise brought together personnel of the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police to improve coordination and battlefield effectiveness. The exercise focused on live artillery firing and practical combat drills, helping non-artillery troops understand firepower integration.
