1. PM Narendra Modi will participate in a programme marking a decade of the Startup India initiative at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today. Startup India was launched on 16 January 2016 as a transformative national programme to nurture innovation, promote entrepreneurship, and enable investment-driven growth.

2. NTA has decided that all candidates scheduled to appear for the JEE (Main) 2026 Session 1 examination in West Bengal on January 23, 2026, will be allotted an alternative examination date from the advertised dates.

3. ECI extends the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Goa, Lakshadweep, Rajasthan, Puducherry, and West Bengal up to January 19.

4. Voting in 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, concluded peacefully yesterday.

8. Uttar Pradesh has approved six new North–South road corridors to improve connectivity across more than 24 districts. Backed by CM Yogi Adityanath, the project aims to boost economic growth, reduce travel time, and integrate major expressways, with completion targeted within two years.

9. The long-awaited schedule for the election of the BJP national president will be announced on Friday.

BJP working president Nitin Nabin will file his nomination for the election to the post of the party national president on January 19. Senior leaders will be proposers.

10. Delhi on Thursday recorded the coldest morning of the season with the night temperature dipping to 2.9 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung – the city’s base weather station – the lowest since January 2023.

The Supreme Court called the implementation of the 25% free seats quota for poor children in private unaided schools a “national mission” and directed governments to frame clear and enforceable rules under the Right to Education (RTE) Act to ensure that the mandate is actually followed on the ground.

2. The Supreme Court stayed the FIRs registered by the West Bengal Police against Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in connection with the recent searches at the premises of political consultancy firm I-PAC and the residence of its co-founder Pratik Jain in Kolkata.
