1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu will be on a two-day visit to Punjab and Rajasthan beginning today. President will grace the 50th annual convocation ceremony of Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar today. Tomorrow, the President will grace the 21st convocation ceremony of Dr B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology in Jalandhar

2. PM Modi will inaugurate the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in New Delhi today. Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla will chair the conference. 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers of 42 Commonwealth countries and four semi-autonomous parliaments will attend the Conference.

3. Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan and several Union Ministers, including Jagat Prakash Nadda, G Kishan Reddy and Ram Mohan Naidu, yesterday attended Pongal celebrations organised at the residence of Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr L Murugan.

6. NITI Aayog released the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2024, a comprehensive assessment of export readiness across India’s states and union territories.

The 2024 Index is structured around four pillars, further disaggregated into 13 sub-pillars. The 2024 edition indicates that Maharashtra, along with Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, are leading performers among large states. Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and Goa are listed as leading performers in the category of small states, northeastern states and union territories.

7. Indian Railways is redefining freight transportation in the country and has set a new record in freight movement by providing a speedy, reliable, and affordable end-to-end rail freight solution.

8. Indian Railways Introduces OTP-Based Ticketing System Nationwide: Indian Railways has launched a One-Time Password (OTP) based ticketing system to strengthen passenger identity verification and curb illegal booking practices. The move aims to enhance transparency, improve travel security, and prevent misuse of the ticketing infrastructure across major rail routes in the country.

9. Tripura Gramin Bank has introduced India’s first fully solar-powered ATM van, ‘TGB on Wheels’, marking a major step toward green and inclusive banking. Supported by NABARD, the initiative aims to deliver uninterrupted banking services in rural and remote areas of Tripura.

10. Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has become the first Indian to be inducted into the ancient Japanese samurai martial art Kenjutsu, a rare honour traditionally reserved for Japanese practitioners, marking a major cultural and martial arts milestone.

11. Kochi will host the 9th edition of the International Spice Conference (ISC 2026) from February 23 to 26, positioning India once again at the centre of global discussions on the spice economy. Organised by the All India Spices Exporters Forum (AISEF), the four-day event will bring together policymakers, exporters, researchers and innovators from across continents to deliberate on the future trajectory of the global spice industry.

12. More than 3.48 crore voters will cast their ballots on Thursday (January 15, 2026) in elections to 29 municipal corporations, including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), in Maharashtra, choosing 2,869 corporators from among 15,908 candidates, following an intense, high-pitched campaign by all six major political parties in the State.

1. The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday (January 13, 2026) dismissed appeals filed by AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh challenging orders of lower courts rejecting their plea for separate trials in a defamation case on their remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational degree.

2. The Delhi High Court ruled that the PM CARES Fund is entitled to privacy under the RTI Act. The court held that even if the Fund is treated as a public authority, it retains third-party privacy protection under Section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act.

3. The Kerala High Court recently directed the marriage registrar in Alappuzha to issue a fresh marriage certificate reflecting a woman’s changed name following her inter-religious marriage.

4. The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday (January 13, 2026) made the interim bail granted to former Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari absolute in a case against him under the Gangsters Act.

5. The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday(January 13) stayed till January 21, further investigation against spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar, who is named as an accused in an FIR over alleged encroachment of public lands in Bengaluru.

6. The Supreme Court on Tuesday (January 13, 2026) asked the Election Commission whether an Electoral Registration Officer’s (ERO) decision to strike a person off the electoral rolls after an “inquisitorial” enquiry into his citizenship under the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise could be referred to by the Centre to commence an investigation into the individual’s right to remain in India or be deported.

7. The Calcutta High Court today disposed of the petition filed by the Trinamool Congress seeking preservation of confidential political data allegedly seized by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during its raids at the offices and residence of political consultancy firm I-PAC Chief Prateek Jain in Kolkata last week.

8. In Chhattisgarh, 29 Maoists surrendered before the police in Sukma district yesterday. One of the surrendered Maoists was carrying a reward of two lakh rupees. Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavhan said the surrendered Maoists will be provided an incentive of fifty thousand rupees each under the State Government’s rehabilitation policy, along with other facilities.

The National Highways Authority of India-NHAI has launched a pilot initiative to deliver real-time safety alerts to National Highway users. The initiative is aimed at reducing accidents caused by sudden cattle movement on the National Highways, particularly during fog and low-visibility conditions. The pilot initiative is being implemented on the Jaipur-Agra and Jaipur-Rewari National Highway corridors, which have been identified as areas prone to stray cattle movement.

1. Every year, 15th January is commemorated as ‘Army Day’ to remember the occasion when General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa took over the command of the Indian Army from General Sir FRR Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief, in 1949 and became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of Independent India. The 78th Army Day Parade is set to take place in Jaipur this morning.

2. Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi announced plans for a dedicated rocket-missile force to unify capabilities under one command, matching China and Pakistan structures. It enhances coordination, targeting, and long-range strikes beyond current artillery and air defense split.

3. Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) emerged as the lowest bidder for building 18 next-generation fast patrol vessels worth ₹3,000 crore for the Indian Coast Guard. The indigenously designed vessels feature helicopter staging, optimized for EEZ patrol, anti-piracy, and rescue missions, with first delivery in 30 months.

4. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Garuda Aerospace signed an MoU on January 13, 2026, to supply indigenous unmanned aerial systems to Indian defense forces, CPOs, and security groups. The partnership advances Aatmanirbhar Bharat

5. Indian Navy Plans Four-Carrier Fleet & 170 Fighter jets: Indian Navy seeks a four-carrier fleet—two Vikrant-class and two Vishal-class—for maritime dominance, requiring 160-170 carrier-capable fighters.

The Indian Navy is looking to lease four amphibious aircraft for four years. This move aims to boost coastal security and enhance maritime capabilities. The aircraft will support logistics, search and rescue, and disaster relief. India has pursued such aircraft for over a decade. Previous discussions involved the ShinMaywa US-2 model.

6. Defence Ministry to discuss ₹3.25 lakh crore ($36 billion) deal for 114 Rafale jets, with bulk manufactured in India at 30% indigenous content and 18 in flyaway condition. India seeks integration of local weapons, though source codes stay with France.

7. The 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day is being observed across the country yesterday. As part of the celebrations, the Chhattisgarh and Odisha Sub Area commemorated Veterans Day at the Military Station in Nava Raipur.

During the programme, twenty-nine Veer Naris and Veer Matas were felicitated. More than five hundred ex-servicemen and their family members took part in the event.
