1. The QUAD Countries India, Australia, the US, and Japan recently launched the Quad Cyber Challenge. The main objective is to improve cyber security in the four countries.

2. The Digital Payments Utsav is to be launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The main objective of the event is to create awareness of digital payments. It is being conducted on the sidelines of the G20 meeting.

3. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Thursday called on Russian President Vladimir Putin and agreed to continue work towards implementing the India-Russia strategic partnership. Shri Doval, who is in Moscow at present for the fifth Multilateral Meeting of Secretaries of Security Councils and National Security Advisers on Afghanistan.

4. Minister of State L Murugan visited the Kankesanthurai Port in Sri Lanka’s Jaffna district on Thursday. Murugan, who is on a four-day visit to Sri Lanka, met with Governor Jeevan Thiyagarajah and underlined the importance India attaches to Jaffna.

1. Japan and the Philippines inked a defence pact on Thursday which aims to deepen military cooperation between the two nations. Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida signed the agreement in Tokyo.

2. Pakistan’s Navy to host 50 countries for regular maritime exercises that are held every two years involving ships, aircraft and special operation forces.

3. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hugged a reporter, breaching security protocol, as he took questions from journalists during a press conference in UK’s Dorset on Wednesday. The reporter expressed her desire to hug Zelenskyy, stating that she may not be allowed to do so. Zelenskyy then got off the stage and hugged her.

4. The US, the UK and Australia carried out joint air exercises over the Nevada desert on Wednesday as part of an effort to simulate high-end combat operations against Chinese air defences.

5. Student uses WhatsApp to share location from under debris in Turkey, rescued. Boran Kubat, a 20-year-old student from Istanbul, who was trapped under the rubble of an apartment block with his relatives in eastern Turkey was rescued after he shared a video message on WhatsApp describing his address in detail and begging for help.

6. Pakistan, IMF fail to reach staff-level pact on bailout package. The development comes as negotiations, which took place between IMF and Pakistan from January 31 to February 9, concluded in Islamabad.
