1. PM Modi yesterday participated in the Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ being celebrated at Prabhas Patan in Gujarat, to celebrate India’s resilience. PM Modi reached Somnath on a three-day visit to Gujarat and took part in the ‘Omkar Jap’ at the temple premises.
Today, the Prime Minister is scheduled to witness Shorya Yatra and offer prayers to Somnath Mahadev.
2. Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026 has set a new participation record, with more than 4 crore registrations so far, surpassing last year’s Guinness World Record tally of 3.56 crore. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. Registrations opened on December 1, 2025, through the MyGov portal and include students, parents and teachers from across the country.

In a social media post, the Minister said that the rise represents a 22.6 per cent increase compared to 2024.

10. The Kamala Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh, with 1,720 MW capacity, aims to boost India’s renewable energy, provide flood control, and create jobs. Backed by NHPC and the state government, it supports the country’s net-zero emissions goal by 2070.
11. India has launched the PARAM SHAKTI supercomputing facility at IIT Madras, powered by the indigenous PARAM RUDRA system with 3.1 petaflops capacity. Built entirely in India, it will strengthen research in science, engineering, climate modelling, nuclear studies, and advanced drug discovery.
12. Odisha cabinet has approved a major renewable energy investment with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited set to establish an integrated solar manufacturing facility in Ganjam district. Valued at ₹10,000 crore, the project marks one of the state’s largest clean energy investments and is expected to significantly strengthen Odisha’s industrial and employment landscape.

The government has refuted an article published by the newspaper ‘The Economic Times’, which claimed that food business licensing and regulatory approvals have stalled due to issues within the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau clarified that FSSAI is fully functional, and food safety regulation and licensing processes across the country are continuing without any disruption.

In Odisha, a small 9-seater aircraft crash-landed near Rourkela in Sundargarh district this afternoon. Though there has been no casualty, all six people on board including four passengers and two crew members have sustained injuries in the crash. The aircraft operated by IndiaOne Air was on a scheduled flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urged the youth to adopt multidisciplinary learning with new fields like Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, biotechnology, and Space research. He said while speaking at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi.
2. A delegation of 57 research scholars from leading Indian think tanks visited Hindon Air Force Station as part of an outreach initiative. According to the Indian Air Force (IAF), the visit aimed to provide the scholars an opportunity to engage with IAF personnel to understand the operational aspects and explore avenues for collaborative research.
3. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, today presented gallantry awards to soldiers and units for their unwavering commitment and bravery in safeguarding the nation.
4. The Passing Out Parade (POP) of 02/25 batch was held at INS Chilka on 08 Jan 2026, marking the successful culmination of 16 weeks of ab-initio training. The trainees passed out in an impressive post-sunset ceremonial parade, symbolising their transformation into disciplined, resilient and combat ready Naval professionals.
The passing-out batch of 2,172 trainees comprised 2,103 Agniveers, including 113 women Agniveers, 270 SSR (Medical Assistants), 44 Sports entry personnel of the Indian Navy and 295 Naviks of the Indian Coast Guard.
VAdm Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, was the Chief Guest and Reviewing Officer of the parade.
5. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the National Improvised Explosive Device Data Management System (NIDMS). This is India’s first platform that records details of all bomb blasts in the country from 1999 to today. The system will help police and security agencies investigate terrorist incidents more effectively.
The NIDMS is an online database managed by the National Security Guard (NSG) in Manesar, Haryana. It allows police, Central Armed Police Forces, and other investigative agencies to access data on any explosion or IED incident in India.
