1. Prime Minister’s flagship platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, PRAGATI, has marked a significant milestone with the successful conduct of its 50th meeting. Since its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, PRAGATI has transformed governance by enabling real-time monitoring and resolution of key infrastructure projects and public grievances through direct Prime Ministerial review.

2. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched mega skilling programme to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) knowledge to 10 lakh youth acoss the country within a year.

3. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan visited the Indian Institute of Mass Communication at Kottayam in Kerala yesterday. During his visit, the Minister interacted with the students. He highlighted the rapidly evolving nature of the media industry.

4. Indian scientists develop the first supercomputer- powered simulation to capture the long-existing paradox of hot water freezing faster than cold water. The Ministry of Science and Technology informed that this phenomenon, technically called the Mpemba effect, had eluded scientists for a long time.

5. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released 55 rare and valuable literary works, representing country’s five classical languages. These are Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Odia. The books have been published by the Central Institute of Indian Languages.

6. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav chaired a high-level meeting to undertake a detailed review of Action Plans of Rajasthan and Punjab governments for tackling air pollution in Delhi-NCR. This was the fifth meeting in the series of such reviews.

7. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said that eliminating malnutrition is essential for building a Viksit Bharat and securing the country’s long-term social and economic future. The Minister was addressing a CSR Conclave on Nutrition organised by the National Dairy Development Board in New Delhi.

8. Andhra Pradesh, Guntur is set to host a major national event with the organisation of the National-level SARAS Mela 2026, marking a first-of-its-kind milestone for the district. Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, , announced that the prestigious fair will be held from 6 January to 18 January 2026, bringing nationwide attention to rural livelihoods and women-led enterprises.

9. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday inaugurated “Sanskaar Shaala”, a value-based education programme for children aged 4 to 14, at the Lohia Lions Auditorium in Guwahati. The initiative aims to instil Indian cultural values, moral discipline, and social responsibility among children at an early age, complementing formal education with ethical grounding.

10. The School Education Department extended Sankranti holidays up to January 16 for all schools across the Telangana State. Earlier, the department had announced a five-day holiday from January 11 to 15, with reopening scheduled for January 16.

11. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced the Tamil Nadu Assured Pension Scheme (TAPS), guaranteeing a pension equal to 50% of the last-drawn monthly salary for state government employees and teachers. The announcement led employee unions to withdraw their proposed indefinite strike, which was scheduled to begin on January 6.

12. On the second day of the winter session of the Delhi legislative assembly, Delhi Legislative Affairs Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh introduced the Court Fees (Delhi Amendment) Bill 2026 yesterday in the house. The bill seeks to provide relief to the people by ensuring a full refund of fees, whether the settlement is done outside court or in court.

11. The India Meteorological Department, IMD has forecast dense to very dense fog over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan today (07 Jan). According to Indian Railways, more than 18 Delhi-bound trains are running late due to low visibility.

12. Former Union Minister and ex-Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi passed away at the age of 82 in Pune. A senior Congress leader, he served as Minister of State for Railways.

1. Justice A Muhamed Mustaque was sworn in as the 24th Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court on January 4, 2026. The oath was administered by Governor Om Prakash Mathur at Lok Bhawan, marking a key judicial appointment in the state.

2. Names of a total of two crore eighty nine lakh voters have been excluded in the draft electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh released by the Election Commission after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state. Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said.

3. Leading medical experts in the country have warned against the excessive use of antibiotics: Professor in the Department of Microbiology at AIIMS Delhi, Dr. Hitender Gautam, said that antimicrobial resistance has become a major problem and advised people not to take antibiotics without doctors’ prescription.

4. The Telangana state government on Tuesday handed over about 950 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the revival of the long-awaited Mamnoor airport. The foundation ceremony is expected at the end of this month, and the first flight could take off by late 2027.

The Mamnoor airport, built by the Nizam government in 1930 as an airstrip for military purposes and currently defunct, has 696.14 acres of land. The government has acquired an additional 253 acres of private land, paying farmers compensation of around Rs 295 crore at a rate of Rs 1.2 crore per acre.

5. Andhra Pradesh police have registered a case against five staff members of the Srisailam Mallikarjuna Annasatra after videos showing them dancing to film songs and item numbers inside temple-related premises went viral on social media. The Mallikarjuna Annasatra is a free food service centre attached to the Srisailam temple.

Ikkis (Twenty One) is a 2026 Indian Hindi-language biographical war drama film directed and co-written by Sriram Raghavan and co-produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Binny Padda, Sharada Karki Jalota and Poonam Shivdasani. It stars Agastya Nanda in his theatrical debut, Dharmendra and Asrani in their final film roles, and Jaideep Ahlawat and Simar Bhatia. It is based on the life of Arun Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra award, and centered around the Battle of Basantar during the 1971 India–Pakistan War. The film’s title is in reference to the age at which Arun Khetarpal attained martyrdom.[5] The film was set to release theatrically on 25 December 2025 but was postponed to 1 January 2026

1. General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff of India, undertook a significant two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, reflecting New Delhi’s sustained effort to deepen defence and strategic ties with key partners in West Asia.

2 A recent satellite image has exposed China’s ongoing construction of permanent structures near the buffer zone at Pangong Tso along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. Shared by geostrategic expert Damien Symon on X, the imagery reveals new buildings situated within Chinese-held territory, adjacent to a pier and existing troop accommodations.

3. The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) TEJAS program has marked a significant milestone by completing 25 years of flight operations, prompting a strategic shift in focus towards the development of the TEJAS MK-2 and the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).

DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat highlighted this transition during his address at the two-day national seminar titled ‘Aeronautics 2047’, organised by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in Bengaluru.

The Indian Army has finalised a significant procurement deal under its emergency powers, signing a ₹293 crore contract with Pune-based private defence manufacturer NIBE Limited.This agreement, announced on 3 January 2026, involves the supply of the advanced Suryastra Multi-Calibre Rocket Launcher System, developed in collaboration with Israel’s Elbit Systems.

6. The recent decision by the Andhra Pradesh government to approve the development of a Greenfield Port and a National Mega Shipbuilding Cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district marks a significant strategic intervention in India’s maritime and shipbuilding ecosystem.
