1. The Government has debunked an article circulating on social media claiming that the centre is implementing new communication rules for phone calls and social media apps. The Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has termed the claim fake. The government said, no such rules have been implemented.

2. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has approached the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Delhi High Court suspending the life sentence and granting bail to former Uttar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case.

3. The government has notified the Colliery Control Rules (Amendment) 2025 to simplify the approval process for opening coal mines. According to the Coal Ministry, the amendment removes procedural redundancies and enables faster operationalisation of mines, while ensuring continued regulatory oversight.

4. J&K Police Launches AI-Enabled Security Grid to Strengthen Internal Security : The initiative, which stems from high-level discussions at the recent Pan-India Directors General and Inspectors General of Police (DGP/IGP) Conference in Raipur, underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology while upholding ethical standards. 5. The Bureau of Indian Standards has notified India’s first-ever national standard for agarbattis. Announced on National Consumer Day 2025, the new standard, IS 19412:2025, introduces clear norms on raw materials, burning performance, fragrance quality, and chemical safety. 1. Karnataka, the death toll in the bus tragedy in Chitradurga mounted to seven after the ill-fated bus driver succumbed to injuries in the wee hours yesterday. At least six people were burnt alive, and 21 suffered burns after a sleeper coach bus caught fire following a collision with a container truck.

2. In Andhra Pradesh, seven people were killed, and five were injured in two separate road accidents early yesterday. Three people were killed, and three were injured when a car in which they were travelling was hit by a private travel bus in Guntur district. The accident occurred when the car driver stopped the vehicle by the roadside. The private travel bus rammed into the car from behind.

In another accident, four people were killed in Nandyal district. The accident occurred when a speeding car hit the divider and rammed into a private travel bus coming from the opposite direction.

1. The government has extended the emergency procurement window for India’s armed forces till January 15, enabling the Army, Navy and Air Force to continue fast-track purchases of critical weapons, platforms and equipment to meet urgent operational requirements.
