Goa Court Allows Bail to Two Nightclub Managers, Refuses to Grant Bail to the General Manager

Goa Court

In a recent development, the local court in the state of Goa has allowed bail for two club managers, who had been arrested in an ongoing case, but has rejected the bail plea of the general manager of the club. This decision has been taken by the court after considering the role of each of the arrested individuals.

This incident pertains to some irregularities that were noticed in a popular nightclub, which came into the limelight owing to complaints of some grave irregularities. A number of employees from the nightclub had been caught by the police last week as part of the general crack-down on establishments in the nighttime entertainment industry.

When appearing before the courts, the defence counsel claimed that both managers exercised limited operational control and were acting on directives from their bosses. It was, however, noted by the courts that at this point in time, there was nothing that suggested they had played a crucial role in perpetrating offences. On these grounds, they were granted bail with stringent conditions that include collaborating with investigations and limitations on travel.

However, the court’s attitude hardened when hearing the bail application of the general manager of the nightclub. Note that the judge observed that as the GM, one is also responsible for day-to-day activities and overall compliance.

Bail Plea Rejected by GM

However, the court held there was still a need for custodial interrogation in respect of the general manager due to the seriousness of the allegations and the risk of tampering with evidence. The court also pointed out that there are many areas which are still to be explored in this case.

Therefore, the GM’s bail application was denied, and as of now, the GM is in the custody of the law. However, the court granted the GM the freedom to approach a superior court or file a new bail application at a later date depending on the developments.

Investigation Continues

According to officials from the police, the investigation process continues, and additional interrogation sessions might follow. Another matter under investigation is whether other nightlife spots within the state had been violating regulations.

The situation has once again thrown the nightlife rules and regulations within Goa into the limelight, and authorities have assured that stern action will follow against those who flout the rules.
