1. External Affairs Ministry called in Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah amid security concerns. Earlier last week, the High Commissioner was summoned by the Ministry and apprised of India’s strong concerns at the deteriorating security in Bangladesh.

Several organisations, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal protested outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi over the atrocities against minority Hindus in Bangladesh and mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das.

2. The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi has temporarily suspended all consular services, including the issuance of visas, citing unavoidable circumstances.

3. India to provide a 450 million dollar reconstruction package to cyclone-hit Sri Lanka.

4. The Government of India will set up a Bureau of Port Security (BoPS) to strengthen port and vessel security. Modelled on BCAS, the new statutory body will focus on risk-based security, intelligence sharing, and cybersecurity at Indian ports.

5. India has reaffirmed its commitment to continued humanitarian assistance and healthcare cooperation with a focus on the long-term supply of medicines to Afghanistan.

1. Australia has announced plans to invite Israel’s president for an official visit following a deadly antisemitic attack in Sydney that targeted the Jewish community. The move comes amid national mourning and renewed political focus on combating rising antisemitism and ensuring community safety across the country.

2. Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul said the law and order situation in the country has deteriorated due to the failure of the Mohammad Yunus-led interim government. He urged the government to play an effective role in creating a conducive environment for the elections.

3. New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar condemned the mob killing of 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, calling it part of a wider pattern of violence and persecution against religious minorities. Das was reportedly attacked, beaten, set on fire, and left on a highway; twelve suspects have been arrested.

4. Inqilab Moncho has warned of launching a movement to topple the Yunus-led interim government if justice is not ensured for the killing of its spokesperson, Sharif Osman bin Hadi. He said the people stay on the streets until the perpetrators and their alleged backers are brought to book.

5. Russia launched one of its largest aerial attacks on Ukraine last night, killing three people.

6. The civilian death toll in Cambodia has increased to 21, as the border conflict with Thailand has entered its 17th day.

7. Oman has unveiled its first-ever polymer one-rial banknote, featuring national landmarks and advanced security features. Issued by the Central Bank of Oman, the durable note will enter circulation from January 11, 2026, alongside existing currency.
