India’s main carrier, IndiGo, has rolled out a travel voucher of ₹10,000 for passengers it termed as ‘severely impacted’ due to a series of flight disruptions. This comes against a backdrop of flight delays and cancellations for many passengers while en route or trying to arrive at their destinations.

As per the statement made by the airline, the voucher will only be provided for passengers who experienced significant inconvenience, such as delays, missed connections, and cancellations at the very last minute, and not just because of normal operational hiccups. However, as per a statement made by the airline, not all passengers will be compensated due to delays.
The airline has announced that affected passengers would be contacted, and there was no need for eligible passengers to submit their request unless told otherwise.
What IndiGo Said
A statement issued by IndiGo acknowledged the inconveniences experienced by passengers and explained that the credit is an expression of gratitude “to thank customers for their patience and understanding.” IndiGo also pointed out that although sometimes unpredictable events like air traffic flow constraints or weather may cause flight disruptions, customers are always a priority.
IndiGo also made a point to mention that its staff operated round-the-clock to handle passengers through alternative flights, refunds, and ground support.
How Vouchers Can Be Used
But the voucher worth ₹10,000 can be claimed for redemption against future IndiGo flights within a certain period. IndiGo also clarified that the voucher is non-transferable and comes with terms and conditions.
Passengers are advised to carefully check the terms of the voucher once it has been generated.
Passenger Response
Reactions have been mixed. While some tourists welcomed this development as something positive, others felt the target group was limited. Many tourists have even asked the airline to look at preventing disruptions, as opposed to compensating tourists after disruptions.
A Broader Industry Challenge
Flight delays and cancellation issues have become a growing concern in the major Indian airports, owing to passenger traffic and congested airspace conditions. The announcement by IndiGo airline draws attention to the growing need to manage operational requirements while also taking into account the demands of customers. For many travellers, the voucher is a welcome respite – although it does highlight the need for smoother travelling in the months that follow.
