1. The nation yesterday paid tributes to the security personnel and victims who lost their lives while defending the Parliament during a terrorist attack 24 years ago on the 13th of December 2001. A condolence meeting was organised at the Parliament House premises to pay floral tributes to the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during this terrorist attack.

2. The Union Cabinet has approved the Atomic Energy Bill, marking a major shift in India’s civil nuclear policy. The Bill aims to amend existing laws to allow private sector participation in nuclear power generation which is currently restricted under the Atomic Energy Act, 1962.

3. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (December 12, 2025) unveiled a statue of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar at Beodnabad in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Union Cabinet has approved a bill to raise foreign direct investment in the insurance sector to 100 per cent, a major reform aimed at expanding insurance penetration and attracting global capital. The move follows the proposal announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget and marks a significant shift from the existing 74 per cent cap on foreign ownership.

10. The Department of Posts and BSE have signed an MoU to distribute mutual funds through India Post’s vast network, enabling last-mile financial inclusion, investor awareness, and wider access to investment products across rural and semi-urban regions.

11. India has taken a historic step in green maritime mobility with the launch of its first fully indigenous hydrogen fuel cell passenger vessel, which began commercial operations at Namo Ghat, Varanasi. The vessel was flagged off by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, marking a breakthrough in India’s transition toward clean, sustainable and self-reliant waterways.

12. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cold wave conditions at isolated places over Interior Karnataka and Telangana tomorrow. Dense fog conditions are also expected to prevail over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

1. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted searches 40 locations across multiple districts and states as part of an ongoing probe in the Saquib Nachan case, connected to an ISIS-linked module. Saquib Nachan was earlier arrested by the National Investigative Agency for his alleged active involvement in promoting terrorist activities.

2. In West Bengal, Police arrested Satadru Dutta, organiser of footballer Lionel Messi’s event at Salt Lake’s Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, after questioning him for two hours, following large-scale chaos and vandalism.

3. Telangana government has permitted government school students to visit Ramoji Film City at Rs.1,000 per student, including lunch and campus attractions. Teachers have questioned the decision, citing past restrictions on school outings after accidents and the Beas River tragedy in 2014.

4. Delhi reintroduced stricter anti-pollution measures on Saturday as air quality deteriorated sharply, with the Air Quality Index crossing the 400 mark and slipping into the “severe” category. Authorities reinstated Stage III restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan after pollution levels surged overnight, reflecting persistent winter smog conditions across the national capital.

1. India’s foreign exchange reserves recorded a marginal increase of $1.03 billion to $687.26 billion in the week ended December 5, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s latest Weekly Statistical Supplement.

2. PNB Housing Finance has announced the appointment of Ajai Kumar Shukla as its new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). His appointment marks an important leadership transition for the company also which continues to expand its footprint in India’s competitive housing finance sector.

3. The Cabinet has approved the Insurance Amendment Bill, raising FDI in Indian insurance companies to 100% and introducing major reforms to boost competition, strengthen regulation, and support the vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.

4. India’s forex reserves increased by USD 1.03 billion to USD 687.26 billion as of December 12, driven by higher gold reserves and stronger SDR holdings, while the RBI continued monitoring the currency market to maintain stability.

5. Brookfield Asset Management has announced a major investment of $1 billion to develop Asia’s largest Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Mumbai’s Powai. 1. The joint military exercise Harimau Shakti 2025 between India and Malaysia is underway at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan and will continue until December 18. According to the Indian Army, troops from both sides are conducting intensive joint training to enhance interoperability and operational readiness.

2. India and the Maldives are intensifying their military partnership through Exercise Ekuverin 2025, now entering its final phase in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. This joint endeavour underscores a deepening commitment to regional security amid evolving challenges in the Indian Ocean.The 14th edition of the bilateral exercise kicked off on 2 December and is scheduled to wrap up on 15 December.

3. In Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, ten Naxalites, including six women, surrendered to authorities on Friday, marking a significant blow to the Maoist insurgency in the region. Collectively, these cadres carried a reward of ₹33 lakh on their heads.
