1. India’s semiconductor sector took a major leap forward with the inauguration of Semicon India 2025 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd September at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The three-day event from 2nd to 4th September is set to witness over 20,750 participants, including 2,500 delegates from 48 countries.
2. The citizens of Nepal and Bhutan entering India by land or air will not be required to furnish a passport or visa, as earlier. Ministry of Home Affairs has notified the Immigration and Foreigners (Exemption) Order, 2025, pointing out some major exemptions from requirements related to valid passports, travel documents, and visas for specific categories of individuals and carriers.
3. Earthquake in Eastern Afghanistan Kills Over 1,400, Thousands Injured : India has sent humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after a massive earthquake. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said that 21 tonnes of relief materials were airlifted yesterday.
This includes blankets, tents, hygiene kits, water storage tanks, generators, kitchen utensils, portable water purifiers, sleeping bags, essential medicines, wheelchairs, hand sanitisers, water purification tablets, ORS solutions and medical consumables.
4. Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong arrived in New Delhi on a three-day visit to India at the invitation of PM Modi.
5. The Ministry of External Affairs has appointed Dr. Deepak Mittal as India’s next Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
6. India remained the largest source of tourists to Sri Lanka in August, with 46,473 Indian visitors recorded during the month.

1. China’s President Xi Jinping introduced the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus (SCO Plus) meeting in Tianjin in 2025. The summit included SCO member states, dialogue partners like Türkiye, and observer countries.
The SCO was founded in 2001 to enhance regional security and economic cooperation. It includes major Eurasian countries such as China, Russia, and India. The organisation has expanded to include dialogue partners and observers.
2. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has rejected European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s suggestion of a roadmap to send European troops to Ukraine.
3. Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that 185 people, including 15 children, died from malnutrition in August. The crisis deepened after the UN-backed IPC system declared parts of Gaza in a state of famine last month.
4. At least five terrorists were killed after they attacked the headquarters of a paramilitary force in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
5. Vietnam has marked the 80th anniversary of its declaration of independence from France with a large military parade in the capital, Hanoi, yesterday.
