1. PM Modi and Chinese President Xi agree on maintaining peace and tranquility in border areas during bilateral talks on sidelines of SCO Summit at Tianjin in China; Both leaders recognise key role of two economies to stabilise world trade.
2. On the sidelines of the SCO summit, Prime Minister Modi also met several other world leaders including Presidents of Maldives, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus and the Prime Ministers of Egypt, and Nepal.
3. India and China, two of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, reaffirmed their crucial role in promoting global trade stability during a bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on 31 August 2025.

1. In France, a Holocaust memorial in Lyon was defaced with a “Free Gaza” inscription. City officials said the act fueled concerns over an increase in anti-Jewish acts and hate crimes in France.
2. Pakistan, the death toll from rain-related incidents and floods has gone over to 835 over the past two months. Nearly half a million people have been displaced by flooding in the eastern part of the country after days of heavy rain swelled rivers.
3. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia and China oppose discriminatory sanctions against BRICS countries.
4. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged to detain and send back illegal migrants as the government faces mounting pressure to tackle Channel crossings and the issue of asylum hotels.
5. In Ukraine, former parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in the western city of Lviv. A gunman had fired several shots at Parubiy, killing him on the spot.
6. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the proposed 40 kilometers buffer zone between Russian and Ukrainian forces as unrealistic and a de facto surrender of territory. European leaders introduced the idea as part of a broader peace plan, aiming to de-escalate the conflict.
