13. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has cleared a major railway infrastructure project for Telangana and Karnataka — the construction of third and fourth railway lines between Secunderabad (Sanathnagar) and Wadi.
With an estimated cost of Rs 5,012 crore, the project will cover 173 kilometres across Telangana and Karnataka, with a completion timeline of five years.

1. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) released a report in 2025 analysing the implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA) in India. The report marks the need for a consensus on a sunset clause to set an end date for recognising and vesting rights under the FRA.
The FRA, enacted in 2006, aims to recognise rights of Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers over forest land and resources.
2. The Election Commission has identified 100 assembly seats in West Bengal in which the numbers of fake and illegal voters have increased. All the 294 assembly seats have been scrutinized to ascertain the numbers. According to officials of Chief Electoral Officer.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday unilaterally announced himself as the chief ministerial face of the Grand Alliance in Bihar, even as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav stood beside him on stage in Ara. Rahul Gandhi, who has so far avoided clarifying his position on the chief ministerial candidate issue, remained silent during the declaration.
7. Former vice-president of India Sri Jagdeep Dhankhar has applied for pension as a former legislator in Rajasthan.
He represented the Kishangarh Assembly constituency as a Congress MLA from 1993 to 1998, received pension as a former legislator until July 2019. It was discontinued after he was appointed the governor of West Bengal.

The Madras High Court on Friday (August 29, 2025) reserved its orders after wondering why it should not constitute a one-man commission, led by its retired judge, to probe into allegations of police excess while quelling the Greater Chennai Corporation conservancy workers’ protest outside Ripon Buildings recently.

1. India’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to grow by 7.8 per cent in the first quarter, April to June in the current financial year, which is the highest in the last five-quarters. In the last financial year, the GDP had grown by 6.5 per cent in the first quarter, while it stood at 7.4 per cent in the fourth quarter.
