1. The nation is gearing up to celebrate the country’s 79th Independence Day with full enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.
President Smt Droupadi Murmu will address the nation today on the eve of the Independence Day. The address will be broadcast from 7 PM on the entire national network of Akashvani and telecast over all channels of Doordarshan.
2. As the nation is making giant strides towards realising the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the theme of this year’s celebrations is Naya Bharat. The success of Operation Sindoor will be celebrated during the Independence Day Celebrations this year.
3. In Jammu and Kashmir, in a vibrant display of patriotism and unity, full-dress rehearsals for the upcoming 79th Independence Day celebrations were held today at major venues including Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu and Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.
4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the remarkable achievement of India’s Solar PV Module Manufacturing Capacity and efforts towards popularising clean energy.
5. Recent discussions in the Goa State Assembly have revived calls for legalising bull fighting, locally known as dhirio or dhiri. Legislators across parties argue that this traditional sport is deeply embedded in Goan culture. Despite a ban imposed by the High Court in 1996 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, bull fights continue clandestinely.
6. Rajasthan has initiated India’s first drone-based artificial rain trial at Ramgarh Dam. This marks shift from traditional aeroplane-assisted cloud seeding to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. The trial involves around 60 drones and is a joint effort by the state agriculture department and GenX AI, a technology firm based in the US and Bengaluru. The experiment aims to enhance rainfall using advanced cloud seeding techniques.
7. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), India’s premier recruitment body for senior government services, will mark 100 years of its existence with a year-long Centenary Year celebration starting 1 October 2025 and concluding on 1 October 2026. Chairman Shri Ajay Kumar announced.
8. The Muthuvan tribe, residing along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border hills, recently held community convention. The event focused on preserving their language, culture, and traditional knowledge. Over 2,000 members and 130 village heads, known as Kanis, participated.
9. India’s Asiatic lion population has reached 891, marking a 32% increase since 2020 and more than 70% growth in the past decade, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced on World Lion Day celebrations at Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka.
10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha region and coastal Andhra today. It said heavy rainfall also likely over Uttarakhand during the next five days.

1. The Supreme Court of India recently directed the removal of all stray dogs from Delhi’s streets within two months.
After widespread protests across the country following a top court verdict on relocation of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, a new three-judge bench of the Supreme Court will hear the suo motu case on Thursday.
2. The Telangana Congress has decided to intensify its ‘Vote Chor – Gaddi Chhod’ (vote thieves, relinquish power) campaign against the BJP’s alleged “Vote Chori” (vote theft) in the 2024 general elections, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and senior party leaders set to participate in a three-phase agitation programme between August 14 and October 15.
3. The Madras High Court on Monday (August 11, 2025) refused to accept the argument that only Vaishnavite Brahmins could be permitted to operate a prasadam (sanctified food) stall, also known as Pathu Kadai, on the Devarajaswamy Temple premises in Kancheepuram district.
4. Telugu actress Lakshmi Manchu on Wednesday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here for questioning in a money laundering case linked to illegal online betting and gambling by certain platforms.

1. The State Bank of India (SBI) has revised charges on fund transfers through the IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) effective from August 15.
2. The oil ministry has rejected calls to lower the price of ethanol-blended petrol, stating that ethanol’s procurement cost is now higher than petrol. 1. The Indian Air Force aims to acquire two additional squadrons of S-400 or S-500 air defense systems. If S-500 delivery is delayed beyond 2029, it will opt for more S-400 systems.
2. India is in talks with Russia to procure R-37 Vympel (200 km range) and R-37M (400 km range) hypersonic air-to-air missiles to address long-range capability gaps.
3. The 160 km range Astra Mk-II air-to-air missile integration on the Tejas MK1A aircraft will begin in Q4 2025.
4. India extended its designated missile danger zone in the Indian Ocean from 1560 km to 2530 km.
5. The Government has approved the very first cadre review of Border Security Force (BSF) Group B and C employees, spanning from Constable to Inspector and its implementation has already begun. The implementation will cover a total immediate promotions slate of 23 thousand 710 personnel.
