Torrential rain in Delhi has thrown airport operations into chaos, prompting major airlines like Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet to issue advisories for travelers. As waterlogging and traffic snarls affect access to Indira Gandhi International Airport, passengers are being urged to leave early and stay updated on flight timings.
Airlines recommend early airport arrival
All three airlines have suggested that travelers arrive at the airport much before time because of the delays on waterlogged roads and excessive rush throughout the National Capital Region (NCR). Air India, in its public notice, suggested that one should check the status of the flight before leaving and add extra time for travel.
IndiGo encourages digital check-in and caution
IndiGo, the biggest airline in India, stressed that it was essential to check flight status using their website or mobile app. The company also advised travelers to do web check-in to skip airport queues. IndiGo’s advisory added that ground operations might also be impacted because of the weather, and fliers might have to wait for longer periods.
SpiceJet warns flyers to remain informed
SpiceJet, which operates multiple daily flights from Delhi, released a statement requesting customers to keep an eye on updates via SMS alerts and the airline’s social media platforms. The airline stated it is making efforts to limit disruption but said rain-related delays were possible.
Traffic and transport problems face passengers
Major roads to and around Delhi airport are underwater, and numerous passengers have complained on social media about missing flights or being stuck midway. Ride-hailing services have also experienced prolonged wait times and surges due to the weather and waterlogged roads.
Authorities attempting to restore normalcy
Airport officials are working with civic agencies to regulate the flow of traffic and make passenger movement smoother. Additional staff have been put at terminals to help grounded flyers. Yet, since weather conditions are likely to continue, additional delays are possible in the next few hours.
Passengers traveling into or out of Delhi are recommended to monitor airline messages closely, opt for digital services wherever available, and expect longer-than-expected travel times.
