1. FIFA World Cup 2022:
Morocco 2-1 Canada
Morocco advanced to the World Cup knockout stage for the first time since 1986 as they defeated Canada 2-1 to not only qualify for the Round of 16 but win Group F. First-half goals from Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri paved the way for all three points.
Croatia 0-0 Belgium
Romelu Lukaku missed a string of late chances as Belgium crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage after a 0-0 draw with Croatia on Thursday which sent the 2018 runners-up into the knockout phase. Croatia had a penalty award controversially cancelled by VAR early in a largely uneventful first half.
Costa Rica 2-4 Germany
A heartbreaking end for European powerhouse Germany as they crashed out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in the group stage on Friday. Germany registered a thrilling 4-2 win against Costa Rica in their last group game, but
it was not enough for them to progress further, finishing a disappointing third in Group E.
Japan 2-1 Spain
Spain and Japan went through to the World Cup last 16 on Thursday as the Samurais beat La Roja 2-1. Japan, who remarkably won Group E on a rollercoaster night, eliminated four-time champions Germany in the process. Japan secured another incredible triumph after beating Germany in their opening game, with their progression from the “group of death” one of the greatest achievements in the country’s footballing history.
2. National Anti-Doping Agency will host an Inclusion Conclave on Friday to sharpen the focus on anti-doping education and processes for athletes with disabilities.
3. 991 cricketers, including 277 overseas players, have signed up for the upcoming IPL auction to fill up the 87 available spots. The players’ list incorporates 185 capped, 786 uncapped and 20 Associate players. The auction will take place on December 23 in Kochi.
