5. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi recently announced that beneficiary registration under the Centre’s Poshan 2.0 scheme will be carried out through biometric authentication, starting August 1.

6. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Union Coal Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy yesterday flagged off a new express train to Jodhpur at Kacheguda railway station (Telangana). The train serves the passengers by travelling through Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan states.

7. The cabinet has rejected three proposed sites for a new nuclear power plant in the state and directed National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to conduct a statewide study to identify a suitable location. NTPC had shortlisted a site each in Koppal, Raichur, and Vijayapura districts for the project but these have been shot down.

8. Mumbai’s Dadar set to get six-lane twin cable-stayed bridge to replace century-old Tilak Bridge— First phase to be completed by 2026.

9. Former Union minister Uma Bharti plans to end her one and half decades of ‘sanyas’ from electoral politics by joining the fray in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. Ms. Bharti said she had kept herself out of the 2019 and 2024 LS polls for his preoccupation with the Ganga rejuvenation campaign and indicated that she is keen to end her ‘sanyas’ from electoral politics in 2029 by contesting in the upcoming General Election.

10. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to clear the pending Ordinance that would amend the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, and enable 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in the forthcoming local body elections.

11. Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan meets farmers at the groundnut fields of Gujarat.

Shri Chouhan joins the farmers in weeding and hoeing the groundnut crops. The Union Agriculture Minister also inspects modern agricultural equipment, including drones.

12. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.

LEGAL REPORT

1. The Supreme Court has ruled that landowners whose properties are acquired for a public purpose cannot invoke the right to livelihood to demand rehabilitation or alternative land as a matter of legal right.

2. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence sleuths have seized cocaine worth 40 Crore rupees at the Bengaluru International airport and arrested one passenger.

3. In ₹3,200-crore Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested YSRC MP P.V. Midhun Reddy, accused number four in the case.

4. In Karnataka, the Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union (ARDU) has opposed the revised autorickshaw fare structure proposed by the government, alleging that it was finalised without adequate consultation with stakeholders. The revised fares are scheduled to come into effect from August 1.

According to the notification issued by the District Transport Authority, the base fare will be increased from Rs 30 to Rs 36 for the first 2 km, with the fare for each subsequent kilometre rising from Rs 15 to Rs 18.

5. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said if a person belonging a religion other than Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism has obtained a Scheduled Caste certificate fraudulently, it will be cancelled.

Action will be taken against such a person if he or she has secured reservation benefits such as government jobs.

1. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has reportedly sustained injuries while shooting for his upcoming film King. He was shooting an action sequence at the Golden Tobacco studio in Mumbai when he suffered the muscle injury.

2. The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed displeasure over the Karnataka High Court’s order granting bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case.

According to the prosecution, Darshan, a 47-year-old Kannada actor, was arrested on 11 June 2024, in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a native of Chitradurga. The victim’s body was discovered near a stormwater drain in Bengaluru on June 9, 2024.

3. Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and an ensemble cast, has achieved massive commercial success, crossing Rs 300 crore worldwide. The film, split into two parts with alternate endings.

1. The Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) is set to complete the delivery of 6.01 lakh AK-203 rifles nearly 22 months ahead of the planned schedule. The contract, valued at Rs 5,200 crore, was initially set to end by October 2032. However, IRRPL aims to finish by December 2030.

2. India and Russia are collaborating to develop the Brahmos-2K hypersonic missile, with a range of 1,500 km; joint work is ongoing on propulsion and materials, and flight testing may begin by late 2026 or early 2027.

3. DRDO has finished field trials of a 30-kilowatt laser weapon capable of neutralizing drones and low-altitude threats up to 5 km; work is progressing on a more powerful 300 KW “Surya Laser Weapon” for intercepting aircraft, missiles, and satellites.

4. The initial batch of three AH-64E Apache attack helicopters for the Indian Army are being airlifted from Arizona to Hindon Air Base aboard an Antonov AN-124.

5. Pakistan has issued a comprehensive air traffic warning and closed its entire airspace, likely due to missile tests or a military exercise, reflecting sustained concerns after prior Indian missile strikes.

6. The Indian Army has opened the online application window for the 66th Short Service Commission (SSC) Technical Entry for both men and women. The course, set to commence in April 2026 at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Gaya, offers a direct entry path for engineering graduates into the armed forces.

The application process began on July 16 and will remain open until August 14, 2025. A total of 379 positions are available – 350 for male candidates and 29 for female candidates.
