A shocking sexual assault case has come out of a top law college in South Kolkata, with a first-year female student accusing three men—two of them seniors and one an ex-student—of gang-raping her within the college campus. The alleged incident occurred on the night of June 25, and police acted fast to arrest the suspects within 24 hours.
Medical Evidence Confirms Assault
As per medical authorities, the physical checkup of the student confirmed several injuries that matched her claims. There was a clear indication of forced penetration, bites, and scratch wounds on different parts of her body, according to the report. The doctors also recorded trauma around her lower abdomen, lending reality to her description of a brutal attack.
Legal Action and Police Custody
All the three accused were arrested and booked under suitable sections of the Indian Penal Code, such as gang rape. According to investigators, although the actual assault was done by the former student, the other two suspects served as guards and ensured no one entered the scene during the assault. Under the established legal principle, all three can be prosecuted for gang rape on the principle of joint liability.
A local court ordered the trio to be remanded into police custody until July 1 to facilitate further inquiry, including the collection of digital evidence and forensic analysis.
Campus Safety Concerns Raised
What has most shaken students and the public is the disclosure that the college gate was allegedly locked by the accused prior to the crime, showing that it was a premeditated act? There are also reports indicating the victim was beaten with a blunt object afterward, further increasing the charges.
National Commission for Women Steps In
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter, seeking a report from Kolkata Police within a day. The commission has also requested immediate psychological and legal help for the survivor, as well as accountability from the educational institution.
The case has caused outrage throughout the state, with people demanding a serious examination of campus safety procedures as well as tighter surveillance of entry into institutional buildings. Authorities have promised a prompt and equitable investigation to guarantee ju
Stice for the survivor.
