Comparison with “Laal Singh Chaddha”
Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022 came out with over ₹11 crore but failed to sustain at the box office and was termed a commercial failure. Due to its high cost of production and promotion, it failed to appeal to the masses.
Now, with Sitaare Zameen Par—a Spanish sports drama remake of “Champions”—Aamir is treading the same path again, banking again on emotion-driven storytelling. Critics say, though, that viewer fatigue at the prospect of remakes may take a toll on the film’s prospects.
Overseas and Audience Reception
Overseas advance bookings have been reported to be disappointing, which indicates that the film is currently based largely on word-of-mouth locally. The early responses to the private screenings have been mixed, with most praising the genuine performances, and others questioning their originality.

Addressing the buzz around the film, Aamir Khan recently stated that he doesn’t view Sitaare Zameen Par as a “comeback film,” and emphasized that box office numbers don’t define his intent. “I’ve always chosen films that move me emotionally. “This one is no different,” he said in a press briefing.
He also acknowledged the criticism surrounding Laal Singh Chaddha, calling it a “learning experience.”
