Bengaluru Rapido Biker Attacked by Woman Passenger, Fresh CCTV Footage Discloses

Bengaluru News

A new turn of events has come in the viral Bengaluru Rapido case as the recently released CCTV footage reveals the woman passenger attacking the bike rider several times, which goes against previous claims. The case that occurred close to Indiranagar had initially earned public outrage as the woman claimed harassment on the part of the driver.

CCTV footage brings new light

The new footage of the security camera captures the woman striking the biker three times during what seems to be an altercation. The biker, who had previously lodged a complaint alleging that he was attacked first, is seen attempting to keep a distance. This new evidence now supports the rider’s version of events, mounting pressure on the authorities to make well-balanced decisions.

Driver claims self-defense

The Rapido driver has claimed that the female passenger verbally abused him and suddenly started beating him when he did not agree to take a longer route. I was doing my work. She wanted me to drive along another road, but I did not do that as there was traffic. That is when she began beating me up. “I did not hit back,” he explained to local media.

Police intervene, both sides questioned

Bengaluru Police have accepted the video evidence and are apparently confirming its authenticity. Both the driver and the woman have been summoned for questioning. A case has been registered, and legal action will be taken based on facts collected during the investigation.

Public opinion polarized

The incident has raised a heated debate on social media. While some have rallied behind the woman, others now call for action against her following the emergence of the CCTV footage. The video has raised eyebrows regarding fake accusations and the safety of gig workers in the transport industry.

Rapido issues statement

Rapido, which provides bike-taxi services, made a brief statement confirming it is assisting the police in their investigation. The company also reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the rights and security of its riders as well as passengers.

Call for improved guidelines

The incident has emphasized the necessity for detailed passenger-driver behavior policies, with several calling on platforms to invest more in security features such as onboard cameras or panic buttons to prevent future miscommunications.

The last judgement now lies in the hands of Bengaluru police, who are still investigating the case on the basis of fresh visual and testimonial evidence.
