1. The Government issued a notification to conduct the Census. The notification issued by the Home Ministry said, the reference date for the census shall be 1st March 2027, except for the Union territory of Ladakh the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. For these areas, the reference date shall be 1st October, 2026.
2. Himachal Pradesh opened the Shipki La Pass to domestic tourists. This pass, located at an altitude of 3,930 metres in Kinnaur district, aims to boost border tourism and revive India-China trade.
3. Telangana State Education Department has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with some NGOs to enhance teaching infrastructure and learning outcomes across all government schools yesterday. The MoUs have been signed in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. As per the MoUs, the NGOs will offer state-of-the-art technology-based teaching services free of cost to students in the government schools.
4. BJP hit out at the Congress led Karnataka government for its decision to again conduct caste census in the state.
5. A cholera outbreak in Jajpur, Odisha, has raised health concerns. The outbreak has led to five confirmed deaths and around 500 hospitalisations.
6. In Gujarat, so far, 92 DNA samples of the Ahmedabad plane crash victims have been matched. Out of these, 47 bodies have been handed over to the relatives.
7. In Gujarat, the last rites of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who died in the Ahmedabad plane crash, are being performed with full state honours in Rajkot. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and other senior leaders paid their respects to the late leader.
8. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over Saurashtra and Kutch; Delhi-NCR likely to experience rain and thunderstorms till Friday.

At least four women lost their lives and more than six others sustained injuries in an explosion at a firecracker unit in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh.
2. Three college students drowned in Charlotte Lake in Matheran, near Mumbai, Maharashtra. The victims, including a minor, were part of a group of ten students from Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai who had gone on a monsoon trip. One of the students accidentally slipped and fell into the lake. In an attempt to rescue him, two of his friends jumped in but were also dragged under and drowned.
3. In West Bengal, over a thousand shops were reportedly destroyed in a massive fire on Sunday night in Kolkata’s Khidirpur market area. The fire broke out around 2 in the early morning. More than 20 fire tenders brought the blaze under control.

1. India’s wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation eased to a 14-month low of 0.39 per cent in May, down from 0.85 percent in April. According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry the Food inflation dropped to 1.72 per cent from 2.55 per cent, while primary articles saw a contraction of 2.02 per cent.
2. The Indian Union Finance Ministry has introduced a spending cap of 60% on the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the first half of the Financial Year 2025-26. This marks change as the programme was previously exempt from such limitations.
