1. External Affairs Ministry advised Indian nationals and students from India in Canada and those proceeding to Canada for travel and education to exercise caution and remain vigilant. The Ministry released the advisory in view of the increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence, and anti-India activities in Canada.

2. Members of the four-nation Quadrilateral Security Dialogue or the Quad signed the Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief Guidelines during a meeting of their foreign ministers in New York on Friday. Secretary of State, US, Antony Blinken said the meeting was evidence that the grouping was becoming stronger.

The Quad grouping was formed in 2017, comprising India, Japan, Australia and the US.

3. Reform of the United Nations has been a central theme of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to the United Nations this week,

On 22 Sep, he met with his counterparts from Germany, Brazil and Japan under The Group of Four (G4) banner following the BRICS meeting. The group is primarily focused on U.N. Security Council (UNSC) reform, and permanent membership of the body for G4 members.

4. Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov on Friday emphasised his support for India’s permanent membership at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

5. Punjab Police on Friday busted an ISI-backed terror module jointly handled by Canada-based gangster Lakhbir Singh, alias Landa, and Pakistan-based gangster Harvinder Singh Rinda with the arrest two of its operatives.

1. In IRAN anti-hijab protests have reached 80 other cities and towns, besides the capital Tehran following the custodial death of a 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini.

2. United States stepped up criticism of Russia for its conflict with Ukraine on Thursday, September 22, during the UN’s Security Council meeting.

3. US announces over USD 170 million for assistance to Rohingya and host communities in Bangladesh.

4. Four Ukrainian regions, which are mostly under Russian military occupation, began voting on Friday on whether to join Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated the regions will be annexed if the local people vote in favour to join Russia. The voting, which will end on Tuesday, is taking place in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

5. At least 71 migrants killed as boat sank off Syrian coast after sailing from Lebanon. Syrian authorities began finding bodies off the coast of Tartus on Thursday afternoon.

6. Dame Hilary Mantel, author of the best-selling Wolf Hall trilogy, has died aged 70. She won the Booker Prize twice, for 2009’s Wolf Hall, the first in the Thomas Cromwell series, and its 2012 sequel.
