Bengaluru’s (RCB) victory procession to mark their playoff qualification turned tragic when a stampede occurred at the celebratory procession in Bengaluru. The team took out a procession in the streets on an open-top bus, attracting a huge crowd of fans. What was initially a festive mood soon became unruly as the crowd grew uncontrollable, causing injuries and panic all around.
Formal Complaint Filed Against Kohli
After the incident, a police complaint was lodged officially against former RCB skipper Virat Kohli. The complainant reports that Kohli and the organizers did not control the crowd well and hence created the precarious situation. The complaint also blames Kohli for promoting the event on social media, which purportedly helped bring in the overabundant crowd.
No fatalities were reported, but multiple individuals were injured because of pushing and crowd pressure. Footage from the scene depicted individuals climbing onto cars, barricading, and rescue services struggling to assist those injured.
Police Launch Investigation
Bengaluru Police acknowledged receipt of the complaint and said an investigation is in progress. They are analyzing CCTV recordings and social media videos to ascertain the reason behind the stampede and if safety protocols were adhered to. Initial reports indicated that the organizers had been unprepared for the size of the crowd and had also not communicated well with local authorities.
Organizers Defend Event, RCB Issues Statement
Event organizers and RCB have insisted that the parade was meant to be a peaceful celebration and that they had pre-coordinated with the police. RCB has a spokesperson who issued a statement regretting the injuries and promising complete cooperation with authorities in the course of the inquiry.
Virat Kohli has not publicly reacted to the incident or the complaint yet. But his close sources indicate that he is “deeply concerned” over the incidents and has spoken to team officials.

The tragedy has unleashed a public debate. While most fans have come out in support of Kohli, blaming the stampede on poor crowd management, there are others questioning the wisdom of organizing such a high-profile event without adequate security planning.
