Eight-piece band Easy Wanderlings describe their work as a musical journal of cherished memories and conversations, weaving a tapestry of soul, pop and folk music, with their latest single, ‘Mayflower’ – a collaboration with soulful singer Nikhil D’souza – a perfect example of that description.

The song, released on September 9, is from the upcoming EP Caught in a Parade that will be released on October 7.

Written and composed by founding member Sanyanth Naroth, ‘Mayflower’ explores the idea of envy, and how life’s rigours and hassles make us wish we were dealt a better hand.

“As we work the grind we sometimes feel like we’re moving in circles and not really getting ahead,” says Sanyanth of the song, before adding, “We start to think about other people’s success and missed opportunities, and wish we were dealt a better hand. But the song also talks about being grateful and inspired by others’ success rather than feeling being put down.”

Reminiscent of artists like Kings of Convenience, Michael Kiwanuka and Iron & Wine, Easy Wanderlings, with their delicate melodies and insightful words, have created a niche for themselves that has seen them perform alongside acts like Jose Gonzales, Anoushka Shankar and Alt J to name a few.

For ‘Mayflower’, they teamed up with Nikhil D’souza, who was right at the top of the band’s wishlist.

“For ‘Mayflower’, we required a very specific vocal texture. We’ve been an admirer of Nikhil’s work and had a good feeling his voice would suit the song. We sent him the track and before we knew it we were all in the studio. We love the way it has come,” reveals Sanyanth.

Ahead of the release of their second EP, the band will embark on a multi-city tour starting September 22 travelling to Chennai, Bangalore, Goa, Shillong, Delhi, Pune and to Ziro Festival in Arunachal Pradesh.
