1. External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, will pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia starting 10 Sep. This will be his first visit to the Kingdom as External Affairs Minister of India.

During his three days visit, he will co-chair the inaugural Ministerial Meeting of the Committee on Political, Security, Social and Cultural Cooperation (PSSC) with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

2. Govt has said export policy of broken rice has been amended to ensure adequate domestic availability.

Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Sudhanshu Pandey on Friday emphasized that this has been done in order to ensure adequate availability of broken rice for consumption by domestic poultry industry and for other animal feedstock and to produce ethanol for successful implementation of EBP (Ethanol Blending Programme).

3. SriLanka president Ranil Wickreme singhe asks officials to resolve obstacles with regard to Indian projects.

1. Britain’s King Charles III addressed the nation following the death of Queen Elizabeth II: According to Buckingham Palace, a week-long period of mourning post the state funeral is to be observed by members of the royal family and household. The date of the funeral is yet to be confirmed and is expected in about 10 days’ time.

2. Volker Turk of Austria has been appointed as the next United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Turk following approval by the General Assembly.

3. Bangladesh improved its ranking in the Human Development Index (HDI) for the year 2021-22 as per the latest edition of the UNDP report unveiled on Thursday.

It ranked 129th out of 191 countries ranked on the index. Earlier, in its previous report published in 2020, Bangladesh had ranked 133 out of 189 countries.

4. In the South Asian region, Sri Lanka has the highest ranking at 73rd position, Maldives at 90th, Bhutan 127th, India at 132nd, Nepal 143rd, Pakistan 161st and Afghanistan at 180th rank. Globally, Switzerland was at the top followed by Norway and Iceland. South Sudan, Chad and Niger were at the bottom of the scale on HDI.

5. Sweden is set for Parliamentary elections on Sunday, with rising energy costs due to the Russia-Ukraine war and violent crimes at home being the most-discussed topics. Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson of the Social Democrats currently enjoys a high approval rating. Andersson became Sweden’s first female prime minister less than a year ago.
