pm narendra modi inaugurates kartavya path

1. COVID vaccination coverage has crossed 214 crore 52 lakh so far.

2. PM Modi inaugurated the ‘Kartavya Path’ – a stretch of the Central Vista from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate on 08 Sep. He also unveiled statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate.

3. Govt to set up 300 cargo terminals under PM Gati Shakti framework over next four to five years.

4. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, DMRC will provide bus service for those visiting Central Vista or India Gate from 09 Sep. The electric buses will pick up the visitors from the four pickup points- Bhairon Road, Raj Ghat, Connaught Place near Palika Parking and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and will drop off at Gate No.1 of the National Stadium ‘C’ Hexagon, from where the India Gate or Central Vista can be accessed by foot.

5. Ganesh Utsav to end on 9th September; Khawale Mahaganpati to continue in Maharashtra. The festival is celebrated for 21 days by the Khawale household, as a 322-year old practice.

6. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today inaugurated a two-day National Conference ‘Manthan’ in Bengaluru. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Water, Power, Transport and Communication are the four sectors that can catapult our country into a super economic super power.

7. 5th India-US Maritime Security Dialogue was held in New Delhi today. During the Dialogue, the two sides discussed developments in the global maritime domain, bilateral maritime cooperation endeavors, regional support initiatives and collaborative efforts such as Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness.

8. Union Cabinet has okayed the Railways Ministry’s proposal to update the railways’ land policy to help implement the PM Gati Shakti framework.

9. GOA : The Curlies shack in Goa will be demolished soon for allegedly flouting the coastal zone regulations. The National Green Tribunal, or NGT, upheld Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority’s earlier order to demolish the shack.

10. KARNATAKA : Don’t compare Sikh turbans, kirpans with hijab: SC on K’taka hijab row. The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday told petitioners in the case challenging the hijab ban in Karnataka government educational institutions that comparisons with turbans worn by Sikhs are ‘inappropriate’. “The SC has recognised turbans worn by Sikhs as one of…five essential components of Sikhism,” Justice Hemant Gupta said. Carrying of the kirpan is recognised by the Constitution, he added.

11. TELANGANA Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan alleged that K Chandrashekar Rao-led TRS state govt has humiliated and discriminated against the Governor’s office. Addressing a gathering at the Raj Bhavan, she said that she was disheartened at not being allowed to hoist the Tricolour on Independence Day.

WEST BENGAL CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that her counterparts from Bihar and Jharkhand, Nitish Kumar and Hemant Soren, will come together to oust BJP from power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “All opposition parties will join hands to defeat…BJP…The [party’s] arrogance of 300 seats will be its nemesis,” she said while addressing a programme in Kolkata.

CRIME REPORT

1. National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday imposed a fine of ₹12,000 crore on the state of Maharashtra for allegedly not managing solid and liquid waste, causing harm to the environment. Without fixing quantified liability necessary for restoration, mere passing of orders has not shown any tangible results, the NGT said. The penalty has to be paid within two months.

2. Uttar Pradesh perfume trader Piyush Jain was released on bail after 8 months in jail, officials said. Last year, his premises were raided by central agencies, and around ₹200 crore in cash and 23 kg of gold were seized. His bail plea was accepted by the Allahabad High Court, and his family members filed two sureties each of ₹10 lakh.

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurates conference of Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relation. She said that bringing inflation down cannot be the sole responsibility of the Centre. She stressed states also play a critical role in management of prices.

2. The Finance Ministry will begin the exercise to prepare the annual Budget for the FY 2023-24 from October 10. The Budget will be focused on addressing critical issues of high inflation, creating demand, job creation and putting the economy on a sustained 8 per cent-plus growth path.

3. India’s fuel demand rose 16.3% in August as compared to the same period a year ago to 17.81 million tonnes, government data showed. Petrol sales were 11.6% higher from a year earlier at three million tonnes. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sales increased 3% to 2.39 million tonnes, while naphtha sales surged 23.5% to 1.16 million tonnes.

4. Enterprise software-as-a-service (SaaS) company Kovai.co has appointed Andrew Cloke as the new Chief Operating Officer.

1. Actress Yami Gautam’s upcoming film ‘Lost’ will serve as the opening film at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF).

2. Olympian Dutee Chand will be entering ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10’ as a wild card. Talking about the show, Dutee said she is excited about the challenge and will “perform to the best of my capabilities”. She added, “I am used to performing in front of live viewers, but this is going to be a new experience altogether.”

3. Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukerji visited Lalbaugcha Raja on Thursday to seek blessings of Lord Ganesh for their film ‘Brahmastra’.

1. Indian and Chinese troops in the area of Gogra-Hotsprings in Ladakh have begun to disengage in a coordinated and planned way. India-China Joint Statement said, this is being done after consensus reached in the 16th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held the second India-Japan 2 plus 2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo with Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa and Defence Minister Hamada Yasukazu .

3. Ten Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawans on Thursday narrowly escaped death after the bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Champawat district, Uttarakhand. The bus had a fall of about 15 metres and fortunately the jawans escaped with mild injuries.
