Dreaming of Lemons

Dreaming of Lemons

I dream of things at night
that I can’t have during the day.
For example, today I was
dreaming about lemons.
Yesterday, we ran out of them.
And ever since all I can think about is
yellow juicy lemon.

Psychologists call this the rebound
effect. As per Schmidt and Gendolla
Paper 2008, any attempt on part of the
person to suppress his/ her unwanted
thoughts, or emotions, prior to sleep or
during the day increases the chances of
dreaming about it.

But the weird thing about my dream was
I was not drinking lemonade but rather
drowning in it. And I kind of liked drowning
in it. I made no effort to come up, fight back,
splatter, or scream for help.

Oh! Before sleeping I was listening to the
World news which included the conflict in
Ukraine, the war in Afghanistan, political
instability in Lebanon, the war in Yemen,
the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, and
the conflict in Ethiopia.

Now, drowning sounds peaceful. Isn’t it?
