CRIME REPORT

1. ASSAM : National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday conducted searches at 16 locations in Assam in connection with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) recruitment case and militant training in Myanmar.

2. J&K : Police has arrested a Molvi in Kishtwar district. He was involved in passing sensitive information related to security forces and assisting a little-known terrorist organisation ‘Kashmir Janbaz Force’ (KJF). AIR Jammu Correspondent reports that the terror outfit was reportedly controlled from Pakistan.

3. Three men shot four people, including at least one student, in Rohtak’s Maharshi Dayanand University on Saturday over a monetary dispute, police said. The incident took place shortly after Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya left the campus following an inaugural event. A complainant said that a man, who owed him ₹6.40 lakh, and his aides opened fire on the campus.

4. Activist Teesta Setalvad walked out of Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad a day after the Supreme Court granted her interim bail in a case related to the 2002 Gujarat riots. Setalvad has been in jail since June 26 for allegedly fabricating evidence related to the riots.

5. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a penalty of ₹3,500 crore on the West Bengal government for allegedly not managing solid and liquid waste, causing harm to the environment.

2. Recently the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the project to develop a more capable and powerful version of the indigenous aircraft LCA Mark 2 multirole fighter jet.

The Tejas Mark-2 is described as a 4.5-generation machine, which will not only have 70 per cent indigenization (as opposed to the Mark IA’s 62 per cent), but will incorporate more advanced technologies to be manufactured in India. Tejas is a single-engine and highly maneuverable multi-role supersonic fighter aircraft manufactured by state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
