14th BRICS Summit

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued 495 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India to attend the annual death aniversary of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh, scheduled to be held in Pakistan from 21st to 30th of this month.

During the visit, the pilgrims would, inter alia, go to Panja Sahib, Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur Sahib. They would enter Pakistan on 21st June and return back to India on 30th June.

2. Chinese President Xi Jinping will host the 14th BRICS Summit in Beijing on 23rd of June. The summit will be held in virtual format under the theme of ‘Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership.

3. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in New Delhi on 17 June under the chairmanship of India. SCO approves the Plan for conduct of the Joint Border Operation Friendship Border 2022.

1. In Bangladesh: Army deployed, airport closed as flood situation deteriorates in Sylhet and Sunamganj.

2. Global terror financing watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) said Pakistan will not be removed from its ‘grey list’ immediately.

3. Ukraine plans to introduce visas for Russian nationals from July 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Friday. Notably, the move will end visa-free travel for Russians for the first time since Ukraine’s independence from Soviet Union.

4. Sri Lanka asks govt employees to work from home amid fuel shortages.

5. Administration in Pakistan’s Sindh province has issued an order asking markets and shopping malls to shut down at 9 pm to save electricity amid the severe power crisis in the country.
