1. The International Day of UN Peacekeepers will be observed today, 29th May.

For the past two decades on this day, UN Peacekeepers , also known as the Blue Helmets are remembered by the world for their role in promoting security, peace and stability.

2. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said that she had urged the Chinese government to review its counter-terrorism policies to ensure that they comply with international human rights standards

1. Ukraine’s former President Petro Poroshenko was prevented from leaving the country to take part in a meeting of a NATO body in Lithuania.

2. Ukraine’s Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov on Saturday announced that his country has started receiving Harpoon anti-ship missiles from Denmark and self-propelled howitzers from the US.

3. Russian frigate Admiral Gorshkov successfully test-fired a Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile from the Barents Sea .

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Tsirkon missile is capable of flying at Mach 9 or nine times the speed of sound and striking a target over 1,000 kms away.

4. Ireland reports first confirmed monkeypox case. More than half of Afghanistan’s population is dependent on humanitarian assistance, according to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
