Petrol and diesel prices witnessed a hike

2. Heavy rainfall alert in these states for next 5 days; IMD has predicted rainfall in J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan from May 21-24.

Light/moderate rainfall is predicted in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from May 21-25 and in Karnataka on May 21 and 22. The eight northeastern states will also likely see rainfall during the next two days.

9. *KERALA* govt to cut state tax on petrol by ₹2.41 per litre, diesel by ₹1.36 per litre

10. *MAHARASHTRA* : After the government reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said, “It is better than nothing.” Notably, PM Narendra Modi-led government on Saturday cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹8 and ₹6 per litre, respectively. This will reduce the price of petrol by ₹9.5 per litre and of diesel by ₹7 per litre.

11. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMCC) conducted a door-to-door cancer awareness campaign by circulating brochures to educate people about cancer prevention and care.

12. Maharashtra CM announces assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to families of nine persons killed in accident in Chandrapur district.

Nine men were charred to death in a fire that broke out after a collision between a diesel-laden tanker and a truck carrying wood on Chandrapur-Mul Road on the outskirts of Chandrapur city on Thursday night.

13. *UTTAR PRADESH* : A local court in Bijnor, in Uttar Pradesh pronounced capital punishment for the murderers of Tanzil Ahmed, Deputy SP, NIA and his wife. Prime accused in the case Muneer and Rayyan got death penalty by local court while three other accused were acquitted.

14. *UTTARAKHAND*: The upcoming metro rail project in Uttarakhand will soon start its construction work. It is expected that in the next three years, the metro services will start running in Dehradun.

15. *TELANGANA* Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and visited Delhi government schools and mohalla clinics. Later while speaking to reporters, the Telangana CM said that the Delhi government’s efforts in the field of education are commendable.

16. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao met Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav at the former’s official residence on the Tughlaq Road in New Delhi.

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the government will reduce central excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹8 and ₹6 per litre, respectively. She said, “This will reduce the price of petrol by ₹9.5 per litre and of diesel by ₹7 per litre.” She also announced a subsidy of ₹200 per gas cylinder to beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

2. Excise duty cut by Rs 8 per litre on petrol, by Rs 6 per litre on diesel. This will reduce the price of petrol by ₹ 9.5 per litre and of Diesel by ₹ 7 per litre

3. A subsidy of Rs 200 per gas cylinder to over 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. A 14.2-kg LPG cylinder costs Rs 1,003 in Delhi. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries will get Rs 200 subsidy directly in their bank accounts and the effective price for them would be Rs 803 per 14.2-kg cylinder.

4. Digital payment company Paytm on Saturday announced that the firm had re appointed its founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma as managing director and chief executive officer till May 2027.

1. The Army is all set to go in for a repeat order of the SiG 716 rifles from US firm SIG Sauer Inc., under the ‘Buy (Global) category’ through the fast track route.

The fact is that the Army is in desperate need of modern assault rifles to replace the Indian Small Arms System models that it currently uses.

The plan to manufacture the AK-203 assault rifle through a joint collaboration with Russia remains unimplemented since 2018 despite negotiations and even the inauguration of the Korwa Ordnance factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district.
