5. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the Central government’s strong commitment to promoting regional languages, particularly Tamil. Mr Shah was speaking at the 56th Raising Day celebration of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Thakkolam in Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu.

12. The Ministry of Railways has decided to create permanent outside waiting areas at 60 major stations across the country, according to a statement. The decision comes close to a month after 18 people were killed in a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station due to alleged overcrowding at platforms.

1. India has reached a significant milestone in its legal and administrative history with the appointment of Anju Rathi Rana as the country’s first woman law secretary. A distinguished Indian Legal Service (ILS) officer, Rana’s appointment marks a historic moment in the Ministry of Law and Justice.
2. A Shiv Sena-UBT functionary has written to the Mumbai city collector demanding that menu cards in restaurants and eateries should be in Marathi.
3. The Karnataka government is implementing stricter security protocols at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) following allegations of gold smuggling facilitated by misuse of the protocol wing. Under the new measures, protocol services will now be restricted to travelling officials only, effectively barring their family members and friends from availing these privileges.
4. The US Supreme Court has rejected the plea of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana against his extradition to India.
Tahawwur, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, had filed an “Emergency Application For Stay in the Supreme Court of the United States. He argued in his plea that his extradition to India will violate the US law and the United Nations Convention Against Torture.
Tahawwur Rana is wanted in India for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks carried out by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists which claimed the lives of over 174 people.

1. The Reserve Bank on Friday said it has imposed Rs 76.6 lakh penalty on four non-banking financial companies for non-compliance with certain provisions of its directions related to ‘peer-to-peer lending platform’.
2. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) recorded a 48% year-on-year growth in its total income, reaching ₹2,075 crore in FY 2023-24. The increase was primarily driven by higher earnings from fees and subscriptions.
3. The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and Federal Bank have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance financial support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This collaboration aims to boost the MSME ecosystem by offering various financial services, including project finance, machinery and equipment loans, working capital support, and loans against property.
4. PhonePe, one of India’s leading digital payment platforms, has launched its ‘Insuring HEROES’ campaign ahead of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2025). The initiative aims to promote financial security among women by offering exclusive discounts on select term life and health insurance plans. Available on the PhonePe app until 9 March 2025, the campaign provides discounts of up to 30% on term life insurance and 15% on health insurance.

1. The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Rosoboronexport of Russia worth 248 million US dollars for the procurement of 1000 HP engines for T-72 tanks.
2. A Jaguar aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed at Ambala. According to the Indian Air Force, the accident occurred during a routine training sortie due to a system malfunction. The IAF said, the pilot maneuvered the aircraft away from any habitation on the ground before ejecting safely.
3. Garuda Aerospace, India’s most valuable drone start-up, has made a strategic investment in Zuppa, an indigenous deep-tech start-up specialising in cyber-secure drones and advanced autopilot systems.
4. The BM-04 is a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) developed by India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), recently unveiled at the Vigyan Vaibhav 2025 defence exhibition in Hyderabad.
5. The Indian Army’s Eastern Command recently concluded a successful Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) field firing exercise at the Teesta Field Firing Range in West Bengal. Conducted under the aegis of Trishakti Corps, the exercise involved the firing of over 260 missiles, with the objective of achieving the goal of “one missile one tank.”
6. HDFC Bank, under its Parivartan initiative, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and CSC Academy to launch Project HAKK (Hawai Anubhavi Kalyan Kendra). This initiative is designed to support defence pensioners, veterans, and their families by providing financial services, skill development, and economic inclusiveness.
