The notice was sent under Section 149 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which allows the police to act in the interest of preventing cognisable offences.

17. *RAJASTHAN* : A 300-year-old Shiva temple was demolished in Rajasthan’s Alwar on Friday, with a video of the demolition being widely shared online, triggering a political row. DM Shivprasad Nakate said the demolition was done to remove illegal encroachments and the temple’s idols were shifted to another place by priests.
