1. A commander and associate member of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, Sheikh Sajad has been notified as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967. Ministry of Home Affairs in a notification said,

Sheikh Sajad has been actively radicalizing, motivating and recruiting youth of Jammu and Kashmir to support terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and has been involved in terror funding.

2. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is on three-day visit to Hanoi, Vietnam.

3. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed academic collaboration between the Indian and foreign colleges to offer three different types of degree programmes — dual, joint and twinning degree programmes — to students from India and abroad.

4. Chennai-based Hawking Defence Services Pvt Ltd, a tech start-up operating in the unmanned systems, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Australian UAV Technologies to establish a joint venture (JV) company.

5. Russia is seeking more medical equipment from India after sanctions and logistical logjams following President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine have sharply reduced imports from Europe and China.

Medical equipment companies from India and Russia will discuss ways to boost supplies during a virtual meeting on April 22.

1. Russia has launched an assault to seize the eastern Donbas region. In a video address Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said Moscow bombarded cities with rocket and artillery fire.

2. The police in Sri Lanka for the first time since anti-government protests over an economic crisis started fired at protesters yesterday, killing one and injuring several people. A police spokesperson confirmed they had to fire at the protesters after the mobs turned violent and threw stones at them.

3. Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday offered to hold talks with anti-government protesters amid a severe economic crisis in Sri Lanka.

4. Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday called on newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

5. The new federal Cabinet of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has five women in important positions, a refreshing respite from the previous cabinet of PTI which was largely male-dominated.

6. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) on Tuesday said a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Mindanao island in the Philippines. No injuries or damage have been reported so far.
