1. Govt to introduce new education policy. It has been decided to conduct Common Entrance Test for admission in Central Universities from the academic year 2022-23 to reduce the burden on students, universities and the entire education system.

5. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the exhibition on India’s Freedom Struggle in Parliament Library. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also visited the exhibition.

6. *ANDHRA PRADESH* : Schools from classes 1 to 9 in Andhra Pradesh will run only for half a day from Monday.

Classes will start at 7:30 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. Mid-day meals will be served immediately thereafter. The decision to run schools for half a day has been taken in view of soaring temperatures after parents and students’ unions made a request to education minister Audimulapu Suresh in this regard.

7. *DELHI* ; The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Monday issued an order asking officers concerned to take action for the closure of meat shops during Navratri till April 11. The order issued by Mayor Mukkesh Suryaan said, “In these days…sight of meat being sold in open and near temples makes [people] uncomfortable.” It added, “Their religious belief and sentiments are also affected.”

8. *HARYANA* : Talking about the ongoing row between Punjab and Haryana over Chandigarh, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said, “They’ve (AAP) not been in power for four days and are raising these controversial issues”. CM Khattar added, “Chandigarh issue should be resolved by sitting together, it’s not something that can be passed unilaterally in Assembly.”

9. *Himachal Pradesh* government will teach Bhagavad Gita to all school students from Class 9, state Education Minister Govind Singh Thakur said. Earlier, the Gujarat government had announced making Bhagavad Gita a part of the school syllabus.

10. *GUJARAT* BJP’s youth unit will hold a statewide march, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Yatra, to mark 75 years of Independence. The march will begin on April 6 in Ahmedabad and will conclude on April 25 in Surat. According to Prashant Korat, state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the 3,000-km long march will have tableaus on Independence-related themes.

11. *J&K* : J&K’s Doda, which has around 55% of schools in inaccessible areas, has become the first district in the Union Territory to complete the administration of the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine among 100% of its 12-14 year age group.

14. *MAHARASHTRA* : A free solar-powered mobile charging unit has been installed in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar, which is a first in the area. MLC Balaram Patil, who inaugurated the unit at a sector 15 bus stand on the occasion of Gudi Padwa said, “This is a state-of-the-art concept that’ll benefit…common man.” Earlier, a similar unit was set up in the New Panvel area.

15. *PUNJAB* : Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday said Chandigarh belongs to Punjab and will always remain so and added that its next big battle with Haryana will be over river waters. 18. *WEST BENGAL* : CM Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that India’s financial condition is worse than Sri Lanka’s and urged the Centre to call for an all-party meeting to address it. “Fuel prices have been hiked 11 times in 13 days. The interest on Provident Fund has been slashed. From railways to banks, everything is being sold off,” Mamata said.

19. *NEW APPOINTMENT* : Union Government appointed Vinay Mohan Kwatra as the new Foreign Secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment. Mr. Kwatra is currently serving as India’s envoy to Nepal. He will succeed Harsh Vardhan Shringla who is scheduled to retire this month-end.

1. 15th Finance Commission recommends total of Rs 2 lakh 36 thousand 805 cr for duly constituted Rural Local Bodies in 28 states for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26.

2. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today said that retail investors have invested confidence in the market of the country and investment cannot be gauged just by looking at foreign institutional investors and foreign portfolio investment.

3. Amazon and Future Retail (FRL) expressed their agreement before the Supreme Court on Monday to appear before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) over FRL’s deal with Reliance Retail. Amazon and FRL are involved in legal fight over FRL’s ₹24,713-crore deal with Reliance. The Supreme Court told the companies that it will request the arbitration tribunal to expedite the proceedings.

4. India’s trade deficit rose by 87.5% from $102.63 billion in 2020-21 to $192.41 billion in 2021-22, government data showed on Monday. While total exports in FY22 rose to a record high of $417.81 billion, imports too soared 54.71% year-on-year to $610.22 billion on the back of rising global fuel and commodity prices. Merchandise imports in FY21 stood at $394.44 billion

5. IndiGo airline’s Co-founder Rakesh Gangwal, who did his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975, has donated ₹100 crore to the college. The contribution is focused on supporting the School of Medical Sciences & Technology at IIT Kanpur. Indian-American businessman Rakesh Gangwal, his wife and their daughter were present in person for the agreement signing in Mumbai.
