1. 14th Annual India-Japan Summit to be held today on March 19
: At the invitation of PM Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will be undertaking an official two-day visit to New Delhi beginning for the Annual Summit.

2. The Indian Embassy in Ukraine has issued an advisory for the Indians in the war-torn country. It said, the Embassy of India continues to function and can be contacted through e-mail :

. The Embassy in the advisory said, 24×7 helpline numbers are functional on whatsapp for assistance. The numbers are 380933559958, 919205290802 and 917428022564.

3. Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Alexander Schallenberg is arriving in New Delhi today on 19 Mar on a three-day official visit. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar is scheduled to hold meeting with Mr Schallenberg on Sunday.

4. Indian-American public health expert Dr Ashish Jha to take over as US President Joe Biden’s #COVID19 Response Coordinator next month.
Jha will be replacing Jeffrey D Zients, who is set to leave the administration next month.

1. US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict for nearly two hours on a video call. Xi told Biden that conflicts and confrontations were in no-one’s interests, according to a Chinese foreign ministry statement. The US has sought to deter China from providing military or economic assistance for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

2. Russian media regulator Roskomnadzor on 18 Mar (Friday) urged Google to stop spreading “anti-Russian” content on YouTube. “The actions of YouTube’s administration are of a terrorist nature and threaten the life and health of Russian citizens,” it said. Earlier this week, Russia blocked Instagram after its parent firm Meta allowed Ukrainian users to post messages such as “Death to the Russian invaders.

3. Russian oligarch’s superyacht stuck in Norway as no one is selling it fuel
A superyacht owned by a Russian oligarch is stuck in a Norwegian port because no one is willing to sell it fuel in protest of the Ukraine war. The Ragnar is valued at $85 million and is owned by Vladimir Strzhalkovsky. Meanwhile, the yacht’s captain said that none of the crew is Russian and that such discrimination is “extremely unjust”.

5. Germany’s parliament, known as the Bundestag, on Friday approved a new law in a 388-277 vote that lifted most COVID-19 restrictions. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said the new Infection Protection Act was a “difficult compromise”. Germany’s Robert Koch Institute on Friday reported 2,97,841 new COVID-19 cases. Wearing of masks is no longer required in schools, shops or restaurants.
