2. Second India-Australia virtual Summit to be held on 21 Mar (Monday) to boost comprehensive strategic partnership; PM Modi, Australian PM Morrison to participate in Summit.

3. The International Adolescent Health Week will be celebrated from 20th to 26th March. It is an annual international week of dynamic participatory events to inspire health care providers, policy makers, administrators, media and adolescents and their communities to advocate for a successful transition into adulthood.

4. According to the draft ‘Inter-Country Non-Transport ( personal) Vehicle Rules, 2022 issued on Wednesday, foreign vehicles entering into or plying in India will have to carry a valid registration certificate, driving licence or international driving permit and insurance policy.

5. Noting that the continued Covid-19 restrictions have been affecting the careers of Indian students enrolled in Chinese Universities, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that it would keep urging Beijing to adopt a ‘congenial stance’ to facilitate the students’ return.

Indian embassy in Beijing, our consulates and ministry have been taking up this matter with the relevant authorities in China on numerous occasions, since the restrictions were imposed.

6. Ministry of Home Affairs has restored all valid five-year e-tourist visas to nationals of 156 countries with immediate effect which was suspended since March 2020 because of the Covid pandemic. Nationals of these counties will also be eligible for issuance of fresh e-Tourist visas.

7. India on 17 Mar hit out at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for inviting the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference to attend its foreign ministerial meeting in Islamabad next week.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said New Delhi does not expect the OIC to encourage actors and organisations engaged in terrorism and anti-India activities.

8. The State Bank of India (SBI) will provide a $1-billion credit facility to Sri Lanka for the procurement of food, medicines and other essential items, the Union Finance Ministry said on Thursday. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Sri Lankan Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa in Delhi. The ministers discussed wide-ranging issues, the ministry added.

1. At least 21 people were killed and 25 were injured on 17 Mar when Russian forces shelled a town in eastern Ukraine, local prosecutors said. An Artillery fire early hit a school and a cultural centre in the town of Merefa outside the city of Kharkiv.

2. Over 100 civilians on Thursday were reportedly rescued from a theatre in Mariupol that was bombed by Russia on March 16. Ukrainian officials said thousands of people, including children, had sought refuge in the theatre. Officials said 79 children have died so far and over 100 have been injured since the invasion by Russia began on February 24.

3. Pakistan’s anti-corruption watchdog the NAB has initiated proceedings against retired four-star General Ahsan Saleem Hayat and senior officials of a logistics organisation after an ex-Army officer accused them of running an illegal crude oil business that caused a loss of Rs 20 million per day to the national exchequer.
