Prez Ram Nath Kovind presents Nari Shakti Puraskars for 2020 and 2021

1. President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020 and 2021 at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on occasion of International Women’s Day. The award was conferred on 29 outstanding and exceptional women achievers in recognition of their exceptional work towards empowerment of women.

2. PM Modi has called ‘Kanya Shiksha Pravesh Utsav Abhiyan’ “an exemplary effort which will ensure more girls get the joys of education”. He also asked for efforts to make the movement a success. The campaign is a mission to ensure every young girl is allowed to pursue education and skilling.

3. Union Minister for Power RK Singh on 08 Mar launched the Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Center (SGKC) and Innovation Park virtually as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Programme.

4. Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog on 08 Mar announced their partnership with Snap Inc. to drive Augmented Reality (AR) skilling among the Indian youth.
NITI Aayog in a statement said that over a two-year timeframe, Snap Inc is expected to train over 12,000 teachers affiliated with the Atal Tinkering Labs on Augmented Reality, enabling the reach of the program to millions of students affiliated with ATL’s network of schools.

5. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that women are given a pivotal role under the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ as they are the primary stakeholders. The minister said that they are involved in the programme from the very beginning. He added that they are part of planning and monitoring and receive training to undertake water quality testing from time-to-time.

6. Chandrayaan-2 mission : According to the Indian Space Research Organisation, Chandra’s Atmospheric Composition Explorer-2 (CHACE-2) that is a quadrupole mass spectrometer onboard Chandrayaan-2 mission, has made the first-of-its-kind observations in the tenuous lunar exosphere of the global distribution of Argon-40.

7. ANDHRA PRADESH: Assembly is likely to hold a discussion on the “Doctrine of Separation of Powers” in the light of the judgment of the AP High Court on the Amaravati/Three Capitals issue.

8. ASSAM: The police have recovered 22 pressure bombs along with 22 detonator caps, 16 HE36 grenades, two UZI rifles with four magazines and one silencer from Mahamaya and Guma reserve forest areas in Assam. The weapons were hidden underground and police suspect that the recovered weapons belong to the former National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants.

9. DELHI: CM Arvind Kejriwal on 08 Mar honoured Gauri Sawant, a transgender activist from Mumbai who has been helping transgender people. Sawant’s petition in the Supreme Court helped in the recognition of transgender as the third gender. Kejriwal also lauded the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) for instilling a sense of security among women in the national capital.

10. KARNATAKA : The Dalit Bandhu scheme got the highest allocation of Rs 17,700 crore followed by the Rythu Bandhu Rs 14,800 crore, 2BHK housing scheme Rs 12,000 crore, Aasara pensions
Rs 11,728 crore and power subsidy Rs 10,5000 crore.

11. MAHARASHTRA : Mumbai police’s women personnel will get eight-hour shifts from 08 Mar 2022, to coincide with International Women’s Day, an order issued by Commissioner Sanjay Pandey said.

12. PUNJAB: CM Charanjit Singh Channi met Home Minister Amit Shah on 06 Mar and raised the issue of change in rules for appointment of top officers in Bhakra Beas Management Board and the safe return of Punjab students stuck in war-hit Ukraine.

13. Mohali District Court on Tuesday extended Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s judicial custody in a drug smuggling probe till March 22. He had been earlier remanded to judicial custody till March 8 after being booked under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in December. Majithia contested Punjab Assembly polls from Amritsar East seat.

14. RAJASTHAN : Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Jaipur on Monday to discuss the post-poll scenario with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, ahead of the assembly poll results in five states on March 10.

15. TELANGANA : Finance minister T. Harish Rao on 07 Mar presented a ‘KCR mark budget’ with higher allocations to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government’s flagship schemes and a revenue surplus of `3,754 crore, in the Legislative Assembly. The total budget outlay has been pegged at Rs 2.56 lakh crore, up from last year’s budget of Rs 2.31 lakh crore.

16. Finance minister T. Harish Rao highlighted the new scheme, Mana Ooru Mana Badi, also called Mana Basti Mana Badi in urban areas, which focuses on introducing the English medium and improving infrastructure in all govt schools.

Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty fell for the fifth straight session on Tuesday in tandem with weak global trends as simmering tensions between Russia and Ukraine kept investors on the sidelines. The 30-share BSE Sensex opened on a weak note and further tumbled 432.36 points or 0.81 per cent amid firming oil prices and relentless selling by foreign institutional investors.

23. Air Marshal B Chandra Sekhar,AVSM has taken over as Commandant of Air Force Academy, Indian Air Force on 08 Mar. The Air Marshal hails from Telangana state and underwent his schooling in Hyderabad prior to joining National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla.

24. Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane said the key lesson from the Russia-Ukraine conflict was that India has to be ready to fight future wars with indigenous weapon systems.

25. India has been indirectly affected by the crisis that arose due to the war between Russia and Ukraine as it is an importer of defence equipment and spares from both these countries and the supplies may be adversely affected by the situation.

26.India’s first female Rafale fighter pilot Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh* said, “I’ve been trained exactly like my male colleagues”. Speaking on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Singh added, “The machine doesn’t recognize gender, it acts as per the inputs given to it.” She said the experience of becoming a fighter pilot has been thrilling and satisfying.
