Jaishankar Holds Talks With French Counterpart In Paris

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1.External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar arrived in Paris for a three-day visit to cement bilateral defence cooperation as well as discuss the security environment in Indo-Pacific.

2. During his packed visit, he will meet his French counterpart Jean Yves Le Drian, Minister for French Armed Forces Florence Parly and is expected to call on French President Emmanuel Macron. He will address a conference of EU Foreign Ministers on Indo-Pacific as well as hold a Head of Mission conference for Indian envoys in Europe.

3. India has advised all its nationals in Ukraine whose stay is not essential and all Indian students to leave the country temporarily in view of continued tensions in Ukraine. Indian Embassy in Kyiv has asked students to also get in touch with student contractors for updates on charter flights.

4. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is leading a Parliamentary delegation to the UAE from 21st to 25th February. This is the first ever visit under the bilateral exchange of Parliamentary Delegations from either side.

5. Tata Group-operated airline company Air India has announced that it will operate three flights between India and Ukraine later this month. It said it will operate three flights between India and Ukraine on 22nd, 24th and 26th of this month. Seats are available on these flights and booking is open through Air India Booking offices, Website, Call Centre and Authorised Travel Agents.

6. The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) on Sunday said that it has arrested 31 Indian fishermen and seized five boats for fishing in the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The arrests were made on Friday, the PMSA announced. The boats were towed to Karachi for further legal proceedings, the agency added.

1. Russia extended military drills near Ukraine’s northern borders on Sunday amid increased fears that two days of sustained shelling along the contact line between soldiers and Russia-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine could spark an invasion. Ukraine’s president appealed for a cease-fire.

2. Cargo ship carrying Porsche, Audi, Bentley still burning : The ship, Felicity Ace, which was travelling from Emden, Germany, where Volkswagen has a factory, to Davisville, in the U.S. state of Rhode Island, burns more than 100 km from the Azores islands, Portugal.

The Felicity Ace ship, carrying around 4,000 vehicles including Porsches, Audis and Bentleys, some electric with lithium-ion batteries, caught fire in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday. 3. An airstrike by Nigeria’s military left 12 people, including seven children, dead and five others injured in neighbouring Niger, the Governor of Maradi said on Sunday. The attack took place in Nachadé village on Friday, a few kilometres from the border with Nigeria.

4. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday announced that Israel would allow unvaccinated tourists to enter the country from March 1. The tourists would be required to take COVID-19 tests before their flights and upon landing.
