centre makes helmet safety harness a must for kids riding pillion

1. Children between the ages of 9 months and 4 years riding pillion on two-wheelers, will have to wear a helmet and a safety harness attached to the rider from February, the Union transport ministry said.

2. Central govt has proposed a law to empowers it to fix maximum selling price of fertilizers and control its quality and distribution.

3. The Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar launched the Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNTs (SEED) on 16 Feb, at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi for the welfare of De-notified, Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Communities. The De-notified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes are the most neglected, marginalized and economically and socially deprived communities. Most of them have been living a life of destitution.

4. The govt has extended the date of NEET-MDS 2022 by four to six weeks. Earlier, the exam was scheduled to be held on 6th March. Health Ministry has said that it has received representations from United Doctor Front association and MDS aspirants regarding the request to extend the date of examination. The Ministry said, the date of completion of a compulsory rotating internship for eligibility for admission to MDS courses is now fixed at 31st July instead of 31st March this year.

5. Tourism Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Alliance Air Aviation Limited to boost cooperation for the promotion and marketing of domestic tourism throughout the country.

6. External Affairs Ministry is celebrating its Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Iconic Week from the 21st to 27th of this month.

7. Enforcement Directorate has attached immovable and movable assets worth approximately 200 crore rupees of EMTA Coal Limited and its promoters and their family members in a coal block case.

8. Passengers of Garib Rath Express will have to pay a bit more as the Indian Railways is in the process of equipping these trains with the newly designed AC Economy coaches replacing the old conventional ones.

9. Vande Bharat Express Trains To Replace Shatabdi And Jan Shatabdi Trains On 27 Routes. Aiming at reducing the travel time between two cities, the Indian Railways has identified Delhi-Lucknow, Delhi-Amritsar and Puri-Howrah among 27 routes in the first phase for running the indigenously manufactured semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains replacing Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi services.

10. Shatabdi trains running on Delhi-Bhopal and Delhi-Chandigarh routes are also to be replaced by Vande Bharat Express as per the plan being worked out ahead of the mass production of these next generation trains.

11.DELHI University has reopened for all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses from today. Its colleges and Institutions resumed offline classes after two years. The University was closed in March 2020 in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

12. HARYANA : The Supreme Court has set aside the High Court order staying the 75% quota in private sector jobs for Haryana residents. The Punjab and Haryana High court on 3rd February had granted an interim stay on the Haryana government’s law providing 75% reservation in private sector jobs for residents of the state.

13. MAHARASHTRA : The water taxi service between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The Belapur Jetty project began in January 2019 and was wrapped up in September 2021. This project, which was funded under the Sagarmala program, cost a total of Rs. 8.37 crore.

14. PM Modi will dedicate to the Nation two additional railway lines connecting Thane and Diva today (18 Feb) via video conferencing. He will also flag off two suburban trains of the Mumbai Suburban Railway, followed by his address on the occasion. The two additional railway lines connecting Thane and Diva have been built at an approximate cost of 620 crore rupees. It features 1.4 km long rail flyover, 3 major bridges and 21 minor bridges.

15. RAJASTHAN : Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs launched the ‘Pramarsh 2022’ career counseling workshop for school children in the Bikaner District region. One lakh students from over a thousand schools across the Bikaner district, mostly from rural areas, took part in this workshop.

16. KARNATAKA: State Govt has issued a circular restricting any religious attire within the educational institutions. Quoting the high court order dated February 10, the circular has banned saffron shawls, scarfs, hijab, religious flags, or the like within the classroom. This rule will be applicable even in the residential schools run by the Minorities Welfare department and Wakf board.

17.Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in the first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ meeting under G20 Presidency of Indonesia on 17 Feb. The Minister will virtually join sessions during the two-day meeting to discuss current global economic issues and G20 priorities for 2022. The 17th G20 Heads of State and Govt Summit will take place in November this year in Bali, Indonesia.
