Gurugram Building Collapse February 2022

1. The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Friday and will reassemble on March 14 for the second part of the Budget Session after over a month-long recess. Speaker Om Birla said despite COVID-19 challenges, members worked late till night leading to a 121% productivity rate.

2. Indian Railways have prepared a National Rail Plan, NRP for India – 2030. The Plan is to create a ‘future ready’ Railway system by 2030. The NRP is aimed to formulate strategies based on both operational capacities and commercial policy initiatives to increase modal share of the Railways in freight.

3. The central government on Friday announced that all the users of the Aarogya Setu app will now be able generate a unique Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) number using it. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has currently generated 16.4 crore ABHA numbers and Aarogya Setu app will help amplify this further, said the National Health Authority (NHA) in a statement.

4. No hijab, shawls where uniform prescribed: Karnataka High Court : All students, regardless of religion or faith, are restrained from wearing “saffron shawls (bhagwa), scarves, hijabs, religious flags within classrooms”, a full bench of the Karnataka high court has ruled in an interim order that it said is applicable only to those institutions that have prescribed a dress code or uniform.

5. Gurugram Building Collapse: 2 Dead, Many Feared Trapped, The incident occurred on the sixth floor of the D Block of the Chintels Paradiso housing complex in Gurugram’s Sector 109. The drawing room floor collapsed while a room on the floor was being renovated. All of the building’s roofs and floors, from the sixth to the ground floor, collapsed at the same time, and rescue operations are currently on.

6. Journalist Rana Ayyub issued a statement on Friday, a day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached funds worth ₹1.77 crore from her bank accounts over charges of money laundering. In her statement, Ayyub refuted all allegations of misappropriation of funds received as donations as she shared details of how the money was raised on crowdfunding platform Ketto and spent thereafter.

The ED has alleged that donations raised by her for relief work through the online platform were laundered and used for personal expenses

7. ANDHRA PRADESH :
AP government released SSC and Intermediate examinations schedule on Thursday. The Class X exams will be held from May 2 to 13 from 9.30 am to 12.45 pm. The Intermediate exams will be conducted from April 8 to 28, from 9 am to 12 noon.

8. The Himachal Pradesh Excise and Taxation Department has suspended the manufacturing licences of two pharmaceutical firms based at Kala Amb in Sirmaur district for allegedly violating provisions of the NDPS Act and irregularities in sale

9. J&K: A police official was killed and four others were injured when terrorists threw a grenade on them near Nishat park in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir.

10.KARNATAKA :Karnataka government announced that colleges under the Higher Education Department will stay shut till Wednesday, February 16, as the high court will continue hearing petitions challenging the hijab ban.

11. MAHARASHTRA : Two days before the end of her tenure, Justice Pushpa V Ganediwala, additional judge of the Bombay High Court who was refused elevation as a permanent judge, resigned on 09 Feb.

In December last year, the Supreme Court Collegium had decided not to recommend the name of Justice Ganediwala as permanent judge of the Bombay High Court after two of her verdicts were closely scrutinised for controversial interpretation of sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

12. UTTARPRADESH: Supreme Court has told the CM Yogi Adityanath-led UP government to withdraw notices sent to protesters for recovery of losses caused during anti-CAA protests in 2019. It gave the state government time till February 18 as one final opportunity to cancel the notices. “Withdraw the proceedings or we will quash it for being in violation of the law,” said SC.

13. Trinamool Congress (TMC) has called an emergency party meeting at West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence in Kolkata on Saturday as rift over ‘One Person One Post’. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and senior TMC leaders will attend the emergency party meeting to be held in Kolkata at 5 pm on Saturday.

14. Director Ravi Tandon, father of Raveena Tandon, passes away at 86. Noted Hindi film director and producer Ravi Tandon passed away reportedly due to respiratory failure at his residence here on Friday. He was 86 and is survived by wife Veena.

15. Onir’s movie on gay soldier shows Army in poor light: The govt refused
a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to a movie on a gay Army soldier as it “casts Indian Army in poor light and raises security issues”, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt said on Friday. The film by Onir portrays an Army soldier serving in Kashmir in a romantic relationship with a local boy.

16. Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane felicitated the winners of the hackathon at an online ceremony held on Thursday. The Indian Army is alive to the threats in the cyber domain and it has taken a number of steps to consolidate its capabilities to deal with them, Chief of Army Staff Gen MM Naravane said.

17. To promote proficiency and expertise in the use of emerging technologies, a first-of-its-kind hackathon was conducted at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) in Mhow. The event, ‘Sainya Ranakshetram’, was conducted from October 1 to December 31 and 15,000 participants took part.

18. The Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral SN Ghormade reviewed the progress and witnessed flight trials of ‘Varuna’ – a personal air mobility vehicle capable of being launched and recovered from moving ships.

The vehicle is planned to be used for inter-ship transfer of stores and personnel. Varuna has been made by Sagar Defence Engineering and the Naval Innovation & Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO).

19. India set for biggest naval exercise at Visakhapatnam
‘MILAN 2022’ is scheduled to be held in two phases from Feb 26 to March 4 at Visakhapatnam. The sea phase will commence on March 1 and will include submarine hunting at sea, planes, copters and warships and submarines will be involved in these war games in the Bay of Bengal.

20. CISF personnel rescued fourteen (14) people from the drowning boat in the sea near Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), Goa on 10 Feb.

CISF Quick Reaction Team (QRT) personnel noticed that a boat carrying some persons has become out of control due to sudden non-functioning of engine and was about to capsize in the sea outside the light house area where the water was very deep.

21. PAKISTANI TALIBAN ALLEGEDLY ‘TRAINING’ BALOCH FREEDOM FIGHTERS IN CAMPS ALONG AFGHANISTAN BORDER : Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa paid a visit to Baluchistan province on Tuesday, days after two deadly terrorist strikes at different military bases killed nine soldiers. The terrorist raids on 2 February have been claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist organisation, an offshoot of the Afghan Taliban*, is training fighters from the Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) at its facilities located along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, a TTP militant has claimed.
