UPSC Civil Services exam 2022

1. India’s Covid vaccination coverage has crossed 167.80 crore mark. Union Health Ministry said, over 94.48 crore vaccine doses have been administered as first dose and more than 71.97 crore vaccine doses given as second doses. It said, more than 48 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Wednesday.

2. Centre has issued simplified procedure to install rooftop solar plant for the residential consumers. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said, a national portal for registering applications from the beneficiary and tracking progress will be developed. The household beneficiary, who wished to install Rooftop Solar under the new mechanism will have to apply on the national portal. The application will be forwarded online to the concerned DISCOM for issuance of technical feasibility approval within next 15 working days.

3. Ajanta and Ellora caves in Maharashtra have reopened and online purchase of tickets and full COVID-19 vaccination are mandatory for visitors, said Archaeological Survey of India’s Aurangabad Circle Superintendent Dr Milan Kumar Chauley. The monuments reopened on Wednesday after being closed since January 8 due to an increase in COVID-19 cases

4. MAHARASHTRA: Online forms for EWS quota seats in Maha schools to open from Feb 16: Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said that parents will be able to fill the online form for economically weaker section (EWS) quota seats under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in Maharashtra from February 16.

5. Former Shiv Sena MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gajanan Babar passed away on Wednesday in a private hospital. He was 78 years.

6. Rescue ops at Dhanbad mine called off, toll reaches 5: After extricating five bodies from an abandoned coal mine in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, government authorities and the Eastern Coalfields limited Wednesday called off the rescue operation, while locals and leaders of political parties claimed more people were still trapped under the debris.

7. UTTARA KHAND Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra released the party’s manifesto for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in Uttarakhand on Wednesday. She said 4 lakh people would be provided employment and the price of LPG cylinder will not be more than Rs. 500 if the party is voted to power.

8. PUNJAB: Congress is likely to declare its chief ministerial face for Punjab on February 6 when former party chief Rahul Gandhi will visit the poll-bound state.

9. Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said she would field candidates from UP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

10. UPSC Civil Services exam 2022: Application process begins for 861 posts: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for the civil service exam (CSE) 2022. The notification includes the details on the application window, eligibility criteria, exam pattern and number of vacancies. A total of 861 vacancies has been notified by the commission. Candidates can apply through the website — upsc.gov.in. or upsconline.nic.in

11. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies along with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) will never become legal tender in India, Finance Secretary TV Somanathan said. People investing in private crypto must understand that it does not have the authorisation of the government, the official sounded a note of caution.

12. Crypto tax will help measure the depth of the market: Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman JB Mohapatra said that cryptocurrency tax will “give an idea as to the depth of the market” and help the Income Tax Department know if “the investment is contaminated or illicit”. He added that digital assets “do not ipso facto become legal or regular just because you have paid taxes on that”.

He also produced feature films, television serials and over 250 ad films. He also directed a number of films, documentaries and television serials. He received many state and national awards for his work.

DEFENCE:
14. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday took over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the prestigious Northern Command in the Union Territories of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.

15. India has successfully tested two anti-ship missiles, BrahMos and Uran, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The test was also the second launch of the BrahMos missile in the last two weeks. India test-fired a BrahMos missile from the Integrated Test Range Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on 20 January.

16. India flight tests Rafale-Marine for INS Vikrant: The marine version of the French-made Rafale fighter jet has been successfully flight-tested at a shore-based facility in Goa where conditions similar to that on the indigenously-developed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant were simulated, a top diplomat said. The Rafale-M is pitted against the US-made Super Hornet — both of which are being evaluated for a possible purchase by the Indian Navy for deployment on the 44,000-tonne INS Vikrant that is undergoing trials in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal for likely commissioning in August.
