why can’t normal batteries be recharged
Single-use batteries (also known as primary batteries), can only make the electrons take a trip from the anode over to the cathode one-way once.
The most popular non-rechargable battery types are alkaline and zinc-carbon. Both of these kinds of batteries produce electricity by means of a chemical reaction with the chemicals inside them.
As they produce electricity, the chemicalst transform into a different chemical. The process for alklaine (non-rechargeable) batteries is not reversible, which is why they cannot be recharged. The rechargeable ones like lithium-ion are reversible, hence they can be recharged.
Batteries discharge even if not used, because the chemical reaction goes “forward” anyway, although much more slowly.
