1. Former world champion PV Sindhu has been appointed as member of the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) Athletes’ Commission, along with five other people till 2025, on 20 Dec.
2. In Football, India have entered the final of the SAFF Under-19 Women’s Championship 2021. India will play the final match on Wednesday. India defeated Nepal 1-0 in their last group stage match in Dhaka. Priyanka Devi scored the winning goal in the 66th minute.
3. In Asian Champions Trophy Men’s Hockey tournament, defending champion India thrashed Japan 6-0 in the final round-robin match in Dhaka on 19 Dec. Penalty corner specialist Harmanpreet Singh scored a brace while Dilpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sumit and Shamsher Singh added a goal each.
4. The BCCI’s All-India Junior Selection Committee has announced a 17 member Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022. The 14th edition of the U-19 World Cup will take place in West Indies from January 14 to February 5. This edition will feature 16 teams who have been further divided into four groups. Team India, who has won four titles (2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018) and were runners-up in both 2016 and the most recent 2020 edition, are placed in Group B alongside South Africa, Ireland, and Uganda.
5. South Africa vs India: Pacer Anrich Nortje ruled out of 3-Test series due to persistent injury
South Africa vs India: Hosts South Africa have suffered a major blow as in-form Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-Test series. Cricket South Africa are yet to name a replacement.
