Hansa Singh talks about marriage: Important to keep the spice alive

While responsibilities often take centre-stage in a marriage, it is important to keep the spark alive, says actress Hansa Singh. Hansa, who is also a tarot card reader, healer and occultist, and has been part of projects like Human, Criminal Justice 3, as well as films Goodbye and Despatch, says that marriage is a lot more than just staying together.

“Marriage is called an institution which encompasses all that matters just not responsibilities. But sadly the meaning taken is just responsibility. Love and compassion are crucial for anything in life. And romance, the one that resembles Mills & Boons, does take a back seat. It lasts only a few first years then it’s deemed rhetorical,” she says, adding, “However it is important to keep the spice alive. Don’t take that fact that you are married for granted. When you take anything for granted it stops evolving.”

Ask her what is the secret to a happy marriage or a relationship, and she says, “Space. In today’s scenario it’s very important. And space comes with trust, love and understanding. Both the partners in a marriage should be happy with each other’s success. There should be no competition, no ego. Praise your partner. Go out for dinner etc. even when the kids are there. Find your me-time. Don’t shy away from indulging in intimacy.”

Ask her who she looks up to, and she says, “My parents. They have supported each other like no one can. I feel proud and blessed to be born to them. There have been so many ups and lows. But they stood together holding hands, no matter what.”
