1. 38th National Games in Uttarakhand
(a) In men’s football held in Haridwar, Kerala defeated Uttarakhand by 1-0 and won the gold medal.
(b) In women’s boxing, Uttarakhand’s Nivedita Karki made the state proud by winning gold in the women’s light flyweight (50 kg) category. Maharashtra’s Divya Pawar clinched gold in the 54 kg category, Services’ Sakshi won in the 57 kg category, and Jasmine from Services secured gold in the 60 kg category.
(c) In the women’s team tennis final, Maharashtra triumphed over Gujarat to win gold, while in the men’s team event, Tamil Nadu defeated Karnataka to claim the top spot.
2. In lawn tennis, Gujarat has clinched gold in the women’s team event, defeating Maharashtra in the final today. While in the men’s team event, Tamil Nadu defeated Karnataka to bag the gold.
3. The Ninth Asian Winter Games (AWG) 2025 has begun at Harbin, the capital city of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. Chinese President Xi Jinping declared the Games open in the presence of visiting dignitaries, including International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.
The Games will continue till the 14th of this month. A record 34 countries and regions are competing in the games. The 88-member Indian contingent, which includes 59 athletes and 29 team officials, will participate in the games.
4. Indian men’s doubles pair Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan have reached the finals of Chennai Open Tennis. They defeated top seeds Ray Ho of Taiwan and Matthew Christopher Romios of Australia in the first semifinal.
5. The International Football Federation (FIFA) has suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) after it failed to amend its constitution as required for the smooth and fair governance of the sport in the country. FIFA stated that Pakistan will remain suspended until the PFF Congress makes the necessary amendments.
