1. External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and Greece Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi. Both leaders expressed their views on a wide gamut of bilateral relationships.

Jaishankar said the process of deportation of illegal immigrants in United States is a generally accepted principle in international relations, asserting that it is in the collective interest of the nations to encourage legal mobility and discourage illegal movement.

6. Eighteen Indian nationals remain in the Russian armed forces, of whom 16 have been “reported as missing” by the Russian side, the government informed Parliament on Thursday.
7. The ongoing Nepal-Bharat Rang Mahotsav is a delight for theatre lovers in Kathmandu Valley. The Rang Mahotsav features six plays that started on 5 February and will run until 12 February 2025 at the Nepal Cultural Corporation Auditorium in Jamal. It is jointly organised by India and Nepal and was inaugurated by the Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation of Nepal, Badri Prasad Pandey.

1. US military-contracted plane crashed in a rice field in the southern Philippines yesterday, killing all four people onboard. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines confirmed the crash of a light plane in Maguindanao del Sur province.
2. In Nigeria, at least 17 children were killed in a fire that erupted in an Islamic school in the northwestern part of the country. The country’s emergency response agency said about 100 children were at the school when the fire broke out in the Kaura Namoda district of Zamfara state.
3. In the United States, the two most recent largest wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles County are estimated to have caused total property and capital losses of as much as 164 billion dollars.
4. The Australian Parliament passed tough anti-hate crime laws, including mandatory minimum sentences for terror offences and displaying hate symbols, in a bid to tackle a recent surge in antisemitism. The laws will impose minimum jail sentences of 12 months for less serious hate crimes, such as giving a Nazi salute in public, and up to six years for those found guilty of terrorism offences.
5. In Bangladesh, the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the capital Dhaka was demolished with bulldozers by a raging crowd last night amid the presence of law enforcers. The museum, Dhanmondi 32, was the personal residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding president of Bangladesh and father of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
6. The US Post Service (USPS) backtracked on a decision to suspend incoming parcels from China and Hong Kong, after fears of major trade disruptions.
7. United States President Donald Trump has signed an executive order into law keeping men out of women’s sports and also prohibiting transgender women and girls from competing in women’s sports. The order has directed agencies to withdraw federal funding for any schools that refused to comply.
8. Palestinian leaders, along with regional leaders from countries such as Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, have rejected US President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to have the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip, calling it a violation of Palestinian rights and international law.
