1. India’s defence budget for 2025-26 reflects a persistent structural imbalance, with 68.5% of the ₹6.81 lakh crore allocation consumed by manpower-related expenses (salaries, pensions, and operational costs), leaving limited funds for modernization. This comes amid calls for increased spending to counter China’s military rise and address critical equipment shortages.

2. Budget proposes no tax on income up to 12 lakh rupees; New Tax slabs introduced.

3. Finance minister announced that the Nil Tax Slab is now extended upto 12 lakh rupees income. The Finance Minister also said that adding the standard deduction of 75 thousand rupees for salaried class, the income of 12 lakh 75 thousand per annum will not be taxed.

4. 36 additional lifesaving drugs and medicines to be fully exempted from Customs Duty.

5. The limit for tax deduction on interest for senior citizens has been doubled from 50 thousand to one lakh.

6. The loan limit under the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme will be enhanced from 3 lakh to 5 lakh rupees for loans taken through the Kisan Credit Card.

7. Credit guarantee cover for Micro and Small Enterprises proposed to be enhanced to 10 crore rupees.

8. Term loans upto 2 crore rupees for 5 lakh first time women, SCs and STs entrepreneurs proposed.

9. FDI limit for insurance sector to be raised from 74 percent to 100 percent.

10. The budget announced enhancement of investment limit for classification of MSMEs by 2.5 times and doubling of turnout limit.

1. The Indian government has allocated ₹6.81 lakh crore for defence in the 2025-26 Union Budget, marking a 9.5% increase from the previous year’s ₹6.21 lakh crore.
